Topic says it all, article states he is moving on to work on smaller projects. I think this is really going to hurt Nintendo. But I guess only time will tell that. Good luck to him in his future.

I think this could actually be a very positive step for Nintendo. Having Miyamoto step down to work with younger minds and new projects might lead to some interesting results.

Like some new, excellent game series instead of only shovelware between all of Miyamoto's titles. Patience will be required though.

Hire Hideo Kojima.

Make every Nintendo franchise focus on an un-needed story and extra long cutscenes!

Oh, wait...

He has done a lot of good things for the company if this is what he wants let him have it. Props to him for trying to help others.

"WHY!!! I know it had to happen eventually, but we could have gotten at least one more Zelda out of him! I seriously am in denial right now, this has to be flamebait, it just has to be!

WHYYYYYYY!!!!

He's provided great wonder for us all. And it's not like he's retiring, he's just not going to work on the biggest projects. This could lead to something interesting. Honestly? Working with the younger minds could be beneficial for both them and for him.

Yeah, he's not quitting the industry, he's just changing his focus. It's not nearly as sad as it would be if Miyamoto was totally gone.

Personally, i hope that the smaller projects is something of a classic Star Fox (3d, but on a rail), 2D Metroid or maybe a Kirby Superstar-esque game....with like the collectable coupons of The Crystal Shards....but with different characters...yes im aware of Return to Dreamland. 0,0

AFAIK, he's not even leaving Nintendo, he's just stepping down from a supervisor, to work on the games himself again. Good thing if you ask me.

I for one am extremely excited to see what he comes up with without Iwata pressuring to crank out Zelda and Mario titles. The man's a legend for a reason.

I agree with Walrus: he's come up with some absolutely incredible games. Imagine what he'll be able to do without the constraints of an established franchise.

Could... could we be seeing new Nintendo series? I'm both scared and excited.

Didn't he basically say he wanted to work on smaller projects so he could have the opportunity to work with younger developers and team members? Maybe influence them a little bit, which doesn't seem like a bad idea. He's just retiring from his CURRENT position.

I'm kind of looking forward to his 'solo' projects tbh.
It will be interesting to see what he comes up with.

He has been locked into working Nintendo's main games series for a long time. Who knows maybe a new Miyamoto project could freshen up the industry like it did in the 80's and get us out of this brown FPS track we seem to be stuck on.

He's not leaving Nintendo at all. He's just moving down from his role as Head and Supervisor of Development to actually be involved with the game making process again. He's stepping down from his role, not the whole company.
