I know I'm supposed to give it a fair fighting chance but there's no way that this spin-off will even in the slightest convey the important life lessons via charming animation, incredibly relateable and female characters that are actually decent role models to some extent for girls and fun and great writing.
What important life lessons does MLP:FiM teach? Does it teach kids how unfair and unjust the world is? Does it prepare them for all the misery that there is to suffer; that most people won't care about them; how tough life is going to be? Does it teach them to think for themselves, be independent, be critical, inquisitive, hard working and passionate?!

Or is it just cute ponies and rainbows?

Well?...WELL?!
I'm pretty sure if they did that, it wouldn't really be a big sell with the kiddos.

Unless your joking, then sorry, Poe's law.

I was sort of joking. I thought that would be obvious. :(

So... this would make MLP's rule 34 a lot less creepy or just plain worse?

*shudders*
I ran across some of that when somebody snuck a link to it in the middle of a bunch of actually safe for work links as a prank.

You can still see the scars...

OT: Well I do think it makes sense, you have an already popular show with a winning formula and characters so why not just remove one of the barriers that was throwing some people off? Then again I have seen some pretty convincing fanworks. Wasn't there a Homestuck anime hoax awhile back that ended up being one or two fan animations that got out of hand?

So it's basically a shoujo anime. Big deal.

This is why I've never been a fan of humanized ponies in the fandom.

Still don't get the massive obsession with the show, the spinoff from the art provided looks worse than some fanart I've seen. Being on Deviant art MLP fanart is ALL I SEE, it's even invaded the bloody sci-fi group I post in, with ponyShepard and honestly I'd just like the fans to pull back the crazy obsession for 5 seconds and maybe just enjoy the show instead of the relentless & endless memes, sprays in games, youtube posters having to answer questions about why they don't like it, there's MLP discussions in the comment section of quantum physics videos, tublr, facebook, twitter.

I saw 1 ep of the show and I already feel I need a break. /end rant

If you ask me, this guy [http://trinityinyang.deviantart.com/gallery/41439450] has basically made the perfect style of humanisation.
Is... is the humanised DJ-Pon-3 in the same pose as Sonic on the case of Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast?

Those skirts look like something out of a fucking fantastical fru fru anime.

OT: A spin-off about humans... whose designs are based off of ponies?

Yeah, okay, neat. Anything to fuel the Hasbro money train.

I can't wait to see Gilda's new design.

Man, why didn't they get Joeseco or Slugbox to do the art? I've seen better humanized ponies on the first recently submitted page of Deviant-art.
...Slugbox?

The guy who draws the massively sexualised humanisations and who hasn't actually drawn anything pony related in months?

Why on earth would you pick him?

If you ask me, this guy [http://trinityinyang.deviantart.com/gallery/41439450] has basically made the perfect style of humanisation.
Tis a joke my friend. tis mearly a joke...

However, I could see Joseco's art being a source of inspiration but I suppose the art you pointed out is more in line with the original style.

Okay, I don't watch the show but doesn't making them human destroy the whole point of the show?

I'd be okay with it if it were centaurs, cause holy fuck those are awesome.

Regardless, at least the porn will be less creepy.
I don't know man, we're taking out the animal fetishes, but now we're just making room for the pedophiles.
I'd argue that while paedophilia is perhaps more disgusting than bestiality, you still wouldn't invite someone that rapes animals into your house either.

Seems too pointless to be true. What new possibilities could the the writers explore that they couldn't already?
Allegedly the target age group of this show is going to be higher than that of My Little Pony. What that will lead to is anybody's guess, granted this actually turns out to be true.
The only thing we can be sure to come out of this is porn.

Maybe it won't be so bad after all!

I think they look fine, although the skin colors are throwing me off. Although if shows like The Simpsons and Doug can have rainbow-ed skinned humans, then why not this?

I can see this working more as a one-time-only TV special, sort of like the Rugrats' All Grown Up special. I don't see this working as a full TV show, again, like Rugrats' All Grown Up.

It wouldn't surprise me if all this, along with the alicorn thing, is some elaborate plot by Hasbro to scare away the bronies.

I'm not normally a doomsayer, however in this case...

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic took off and became the massively successful IP that it is today simply and specifically because it was NOT just another "little girls cartoon show". Faust said so as much when she came up with the premise. it's not going to be 20 minutes of them sitting around fretting about their hair and what colors coordinate to get this boys attention or else their world will simply just end, which is what this is looking like just from the screenshot that we got. IF that does turn out to be what happens, my only concern here is that it will bomb. Hard. And when that happens that Hasbro takes the axe to both shows in one swing and abandons MLP again for another decade or so.

This has the potential to go so wrong in so many ways.
No, I'm not saying MLP is ruined forever.
I'm just saying I'm cautiously awaiting the release.

Even though 'they' are going out of they're way to piss me off I 'have' to watch this. Is Fluttershy going with Zach or Brian to the spring dance? I 'have' to know this.

Welp... basically the whole thing about Friendship is Magic is, that it's way better than anyone would expect by looking at it so i'm not writing of the Spinoff just yet. I'm just saying that i won't be surprised if it turns out to be bad.

So this is really going to be a thing, then? Huh.

I'm baffled. What the fans love is the setting. A fantasy world with shapeshifting bug aliens, thousand year-old princess/godesses, dragons, magic ponds, and (oddly) a functioning government. Fans love that the characters are adults, who have jobs and responsibilities and life aspirations. There's a weird balance between absurd whimsy and hard-headed practicality that gives the show it's charm and creates room for any sort of story to take place.

Why the bloody heck would you decide that High School banality is the way to go here? If they must have humanized ponies, why not aim for something like Slayers or even (though I haven't seen it) Sailor Moon? What the heck is so appealing about High School of all settings? Okay, granted, it may well be closer to Hogwarts - complete with murderous lich arch-nemesis Sombra standing in for Voldemort - than Saved by the Bell, but I don't have terribly high hopes here.

Well, we'll see.
