I play on a private server for MapleStory, and yes, I know that Nexon shuts down every single one they find. Anyways, my char is a lvl 200 Buccaneer, and he can solo like, any boss.
I used to play MapleStory - Have to say it was one of my favourites, but i don't quite understand why - The graphics were just really appealing to me.

Not participating. I have never played an MMORPG.
You were not asked individually to participate in this thread, there have been numerous other people who are downright willing to do so.

What a terrible excuse to bump up your post count.

+1 right?
+10! (lol CoD4 joke)
Yea, when did you quit playing? They added a whole new branch (pirates, that's what I am), and a new job for every class.
I was actually playing like, a few months ago, i've been on when the pirates have been kicking about

I think i'm a level 45 or 46 Spearman - I had a bunch of maple items from an event like, 4 years ago but i just keep quiting the game and then coming back to it a while later

I moved onto WoW for it.
Yea, in one month MapleGlobal gets the Knights of Cygnus job branch, a completely new way to MAKE THE GAME AWESOME. Check it out, its already out in MapleSEA and KMS (korean maple story)
Yeah i read about them ages ago

They're basically introducing Hybrid characters into the game right?

I can't remember what it was about them

I usually go for DPS. I love to play as mages.

There is a certain sadistic pleasure in being Crowd Control, though.

I enjoy being the tank (melee, warrior) or the healer.
Suits me good I suppose, although I don't mind being DPS or CC, I just prefer tanking/healing.

Primarily, I'm a DPSer in World of Warcraft. Paladin? Retribution-spec. Shaman? Elemental. Priest? Shadow. Druid? Cat form Feral. Warrior? Okay, I'm contemplating re-specing but Arms. Death Knight? Unholy DPS. I CAN do healing, but considering all it is is "keep person you are healing as your target and press heal button with speed of pneumatic drill" I really kinda got bored of it. At least DPSing you feel like you're contributing.

I do see where you're coming from but even if the Healer is a boring class, you can't help but deny how crucial it is in raids.

As for my characters? Mage: Fire-specced. I've been told it's not exactly great for PvP and Arcane is the way to go because they learn slow after a while, but i could always respec after a while.

PvP scares me.

I'm sure you've all played it or seen it, games like World of Warcraft and Everquest 2 - The roles of a party that are crucial to have in any raid or for the simplest dungeon.

What i want to ask you is this - When you make a character for these games, what is it you usually want to be?
[post shortened by the quoter]
Sorry to have stepped on your toes my friend. But you seemed to imply that everybody has played an MMO.

My answer that I was not participating was a direct answer to your question: "When you make a character for these games, what is it you usually want to be?". Since I have never made a character for one of these games, I answered truthfully to your question.

In all logic and reasoning that I can muster, my post is valid. The fact that the answers you provided for your question does not qualify for my situation, does not inhibit me from creating my own answer and posting it in the topic you created. It is in no way merely my intention to increase my post count, and frankly I am offended that you are implying so without even knowing me and the way I usually post.

Is there a fallacy in my reasoning? Perhaps I'm not as sharp today as I would like to be.

I intensely enjoy tanking, because of the bonds I develop with the healers. Kind of My Emotional connection thingy.

Possibly the Tanker who runs in and absorbs all the damage to protect the rest of the party?
Or the Healer who supports the Tanker and the rest of the party with life-saving heals and buffs?
The DPS character who inflicts insane amounts of damage in a short period of time to help out the tankers.
Or the Crowd Controller Who could decrease the damage output of the monsters or incapacitate them to make everyone's life easier (Because what harm is an ogre that's been polymorphed into a sheep?)

So what are you?
Something else.

In WoW I played an undead Shadow Priest named Sharess, I ruled the art of the gank, tormenting the Alliance in Wetlands and Redridge and other places, but that was pretty much my thing. I wasn't a griefer, I was just a ganker. I would roam around looking to provoke lowbs into calling in the cavalry, because I got a real thrill out of playing cat and mouse while I dotted down the stragglers.

I've never been one to play an MMO just to be another brick in the wall. Why be a run of the mill healbot when I can have some real fun on the side? Why be a run of the mill dime a dozen PvP arena grinder when I can go have some real fun outside of an enemy town? I'll never understand why so many people are content with simply accepting the rolls given to them.

Tank, for glory and the honor of being first to die!

But seriously, I do love tanking. Only fun thing to do in PvE.

Im a huntard. I do damage by pressing one button repeatedly (steady shot / trinket / cooldown buffs rotation macro i set up), and occasionally pressing 3 other buttons (serpent sting, black arrow, explosive shot). I get commended for doing 3k+ dps when i don't really have to do anything. <3 being a huntard. Don't worry though.... i have an almost 80 priest i'm gonna heal with soon, so don't flame me.

Damage Dealer; I like to break things.
I completely agree with you on that.

Being a mage though, it's a bit of a glass cannon affair

I can deal a good amount of damage, but i die embarrassingly easily
I said Damage Dealer, not Mana Burner, I always have enough mana to cast frost nova or freeze the dick in place, teleport away, cast Flare or just run away!!!!

Worst case scenario I bust out The Spell. (which varies from game to game)

Tbh depends on the game.

In WoW I played as a tank and healer (have to laugh at the amount of tank posts here btw. In 1 year of wow I only ever met 4 other tanks. I think some people think melee dps is tanking lol.)

In DDO I played as tank, dps/buffer/cc caster and melee dps. Would have played as a healer here too but unlike most other mmo's it really does require a lot of skill and mine was lacking lol.

In EQ2 I played as a tank and a healer. (I must admit that I was very suprised to see how many healers there were in this game. I dont think I've ever encountered so many.)

In Aoc I played as a tank and melee dps. I was going to try playing a healer but unfortunately I got bored by the bland gameplay before I got round to it.)

In GW I played a dps caster but not for very long. I blame DDO for ruining my enjoyment of what would probably have been a good game if I hadnt played that first. It just seemed very dull in comparison.

Generally I used to run heavy DPS crossed with movement control/snares. Did everything in PvE.
