I generally roll healers. I absolutely love being relied on and getting the "OMFG THANK YOUUUUUUUUUU! YOU SAVED ME" comments.

That and, how popular you become. I've never had to find a group as a healer, they find me :)

In every game I play, I always go Healer. It sucks though because in most games they are completely reliant on teams, and are nearly impossible to solo when none of my friends are on. Another issue is that in some games there is an overflow of healers and finding a party becomes even harder.

Pure crowd control get bored with the other classes. And haven't found one I like more or thats as good as the Enchanter in EQ1. Tried other CC classes in other mmorpg's but don't feel the same.

Meh. I prefer being a DPS, typically something like a ranger/hunter. Everything else is feels kind of bland for me; especially being a healer. If only there was a game that broke the "healers can't do damage" archetype....

I play a tank...more or less always. A shield, a mace, and a few throwing axes are all I need to grind myself up to level 60. SUCK IT, SAMBROG!

I played WoW for a bit, (33 levels or thereabouts) and found that I enjoyed the dps and crowd control. I usually leaned more toward the DPS in WoW and crowd control in 33 levels or thereabouts of LOTRO.

When I played Runescape, I guess you could call me a Warger. Melee attacks with Ranger armor, so I managed to negate a lot of mage damage, however in hand to hand combat it was all luck and all lobsters to survive. I don't think War Mage would have worked so well though.

I'm usually a DPS class, but that's not to say that I necessarily like those classes because of the huge damage or numbers they throw up on the scoreboards. I love DPS classes because I love playing rogue and mage characters. Rogues--especially in MMORPGS--have the ability to go invisible. And I love that. Seriously, there is nothing cooler to me than having a character that can, with the press of a button, disappear from sight (AI and player alike) with the touch of a button. It's really, really unnerving in duels to start off by just vanishing and strafing around the peripheries of the battlefield for a couple minutes until the other guy decides I'm not a threat anymore, sits down, starts chatting with his spectating friends and then SPLURCH, knife in the back. Don't yell at me; that's what a rogue would do.

I love mages because they're usually very light, mobile, deceptively dexterous and can lob fiery death into the middle of the fray. Just being able to pick my battles and if things go sour being able to teleport my clothy ass out of there is really a boon of the class.

I've done healer before and enjoyed it. Actually, I've never, ever had anyone complain about my abilities as a healer and have actually received a lot of compliments because I take really, really good care of my party members, but it's just not my thing. Tanking is my absolute, bottom-of-the-barrel, most hated niche to fill. I did it once in Nexus: the Kingdom of the Winds when that was still new (and no more popular than it is today) and it drove me insane watching the mages paralyzing everything and the rogue teleporting all around the enemy they were meleeing, popping in and out of invisibility, while I just stood there with my best self-buff on and swung at the most dangerous-looking thing. Bless the tanks out there that make my roguing job easier, because it's a job I will never be able to do.

I'm actually really surprised at the amount of replies this thread gets when i go off to do various other things.

Here's another question for you:

How do you make your character yours?
What macros do you use and what combination of spells and skills do you use to take down that tough boss mob?

Or what other characters do you usually go around with? Is your best friend a tank and you're his healer?

At the risk of being mindlessly self-indulgent (if you get the reference, my eternal love is yours), I'm going to post two times in the past three posts. My apologies.

My character is mine because I choose what I think a high-schooler would think is "hardcore" and decide that that's "awesome" enough for a character I play. When I played WoW, I always played undead, and then on top of that in the facial selection, I made sure that mofo had no jawbone because chewing is for pussies. As a DPS class, and a particularly fragile one at that, going around with a healer was especially prudent, especially since my roommate rolled priest and he was the guy I really joined the game to play with.

As for macros? No man, no. I don't do that macro nonsense. Macro is for mages (and actually, I did use macros when I was a mage, but I've always thought of playing mages as a cop-out... even though I love playing them). My rogue jumps all the fucking time. That's how he's mine. Is there somewhere I should be running to for our next instance? Nah, I'm jumping there. Strafe-jumping, if possible. Last, and I know I'm gimping my play by doing this, I do NOT do that left-handed, mousey-keyboard bullshit. Keyboard and keyboard only. If it takes me seven minutes to turn, I don't care, because I'm not using a mouse with my right hand. That's what satanists do, and do you want to know a secret about them? They worship satan.

That's my peace on the whole "MMORPG personality." And I'm sorry.

DPS the tank takes all the damage, the crowd controllers just get shouted at all the time and healers get bored.

Sorry i don't think i get the reference, the band springs to mind instantly, but if you don't mean the band MSI then i'll feel silly :(

As for your post, that's more or less a perfect description of how you make your own playing experience personal and unique in game worlds full of the same characters sporting slightly different armor.

Thank you :)

I'll generally start a game with a dps or healer. Get curious on the other classes and end up leveling one of everything out of a starter zone. Then making a decision on which i enjoyed the most. Don't like being like this though as it makes the game seem more boring doing the same part over and over. Once i've been playing a while will generally keep swapping between all the classes as the main one gets a little boring.
