I swear to god, that captcha thing is going to be the death of me.
I've trialed way too many MMOs. From WoW to Mabinogi, I've been through the notable online titles. Throughout the majority of them, I've found that the only way to make your way in these games is by completing quests, which eventually leads to PVP.
I have yet to find an actual MMO that feels like a resemblance of real life where you find a trade and make a living upon that. Most MMOs are based around combat (killing things until the quest says your done) and I find it rather monotonous.
Now, I used to be a regular on a mod for the space sim, Freelancer. For any of you who know about Freelancer Reunion, then you might know where I'm going with this. Freelancer Reunion let you be and do anything. You could be a trader, a miner, a bounty hunter, or a pirate and you could make a living that way. I played as an independent trader for most of the game and I had my share of adventures avoiding pirates, dealing with pirates and being killed by pirates. Eventually, I left the game because of all the damn pirates everywhere but a thought has clung to me ever since I left.
Are there MMOs or MMORPGs that are not based around questing? Playing through Reunion, I only took quests if I was really aching for cash. Normally, I would just pick up expensive trade goods from one end of the universe and plot a complicated course to the other end for a sweet payoff, which i could then spend on new guns, missiles and even put towards a better ship. For all of the wonderment of MMOs, its shocking how many of them are built around the formula of killing random numbers of monsters. Is there an alternative?
