As we all know Boyle is secretly an incarnation of God dispensing his divine wisdom through an unassumming means (You didn't REALLY think there was such a thing as a teetotaler Scotsman did you? That's right up there with Leprechauns and pixies! Otherwise how would Scotsmen get their nutrition!?)
Irn-Bru
And the Bru Bars. I remember them as a kid, they were monstrous!

Add two other scottish delicacies I discovered recently...

The Munchy Box, google it, but essentially its a pizza box, filled with kebab meat, chillies, chips, onion rings and anything else they could find to deep fry in lard.

And then there's the deep fried half pizza, scarily the battered one is healthier than the regular one, as the lard cant soak into the base. eww, I think.

I'll certainly look out for the US show that's like 'Mock the Week' tho, I think America has some truly great stand ups, but a lot of them don't get the recognition deserved.

( I realise this is at least 2 seperate threads, best ignore this and go back to commenting on MtW, sorry folks! )

I'm not gonna have a go at your opinion but I always found That Mitchell and Webb Look was quite clever

Like those snooker commentators? That was old before it was even on the show. I suppose I'm biased against sketch shows because they're bad. *Especially* ones that have repeated characters.

Peep Show, however, is *literally* the third best thing on television.

Mock the Week I'm not particularly a fan of due to the high percentage of panelists being redundant. I like Frankie Boyle, but seriously, why has everyone been felating him so much lately? I think these forums can be prone to hero worship (see: Valve, Yahtzee).

I think another problem I have with it isn't really its own fault: large percentage of the shows I see are repeats on Dave, and thus any topical jokes they make require some head scratching before a giggle. Either way, I don't think it's as good as Have I Got News For You.

But that's just my opinion. And it's hidden in alot of text. So many of you probably won't read it. Just go right to the bottom and start typing. If you read this: gold star.

*shrug* I think all of the regular panelists are good. It is a shame Frankie's leaving though. I'm trying to think who would be good to replace his shoes. Simon Amstell would be good for blunt, crude humour but he might be too 'big' for being a measely contestant on a panel show after hosting Buzzcocks :D

Amstell has been on 8 out of 10 cats, so I'm sure he's open to taking a spot, being on telly is being on telly, its all exposure, and may earn you viewers from a new fanbase.

Having said that, I think Mock the Week is more built for stand up comedians, people who can think on their feet, not knocking Amstell, I like him, despite thinking I wouldnt, but I think Mock the Week needs a certain type and Amstell isn't it.

I think Amstell does do stand up though. In fact I'm pretty certain because my friend asked me if I wanted to go see him live a few months back :p

Like I've mentioned before, Mitchell's personal humour and opinions on panel shows and such is top notch, no complaints there. But the stuff he makes for TV (imo) is too forced. The sort of TV that's written for a specific demographic to compete with another channel's specific show, rather than someone making something off their own back and then seeing if anyone wants it.
Since it's come up a few times in this thread, I may as well point out that Mitchell & Webb don't write Peep Show, just star in it- while M&W do contribute the odd line, writing duties are very much that of Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain.

Fair enough, I consider myself educated, I'm still not sure he'd 'fit' MtW tho. I'd prefer David Mitchell myself, or Ed Byrne, or, well, quite a few other people, and I really like NMTBuzzcocks too.

Vote's definitely in for Ed Byrne, he seems to gel with the others in the manner that Frankie does. Though i don't know if mtw's going to be the same without Frankie's edgy humour :(

A threadjack-ette: the Mitchell And Webb love mentioned a few times - and I HATE myself for saying this because only tedious radio snobs tend to say it, but the radio versions of their sketch show were much, much better than the TV version. Honest. You can buy them on CD or iTunes. Or wait til the BBC Listen Again site has them repeated, as it does from time to time. I would, if I were you. Go on. Ah, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on. Etc.
