Back at you, fuck head! I hope you get to hell before I do!

Just kidding, I kind of got into the spirit a bit more than I intended, but it shall stay...

Speculation is human nature, apocalyptic meanderings have been conversation fodder for millennia, or so I feel can be safely assumed from evident mythology.

Any excuse to convince ourselves the world is about to end. I think it's healthy for people to consider the possibility, it may remind a few of them to not take their lives, good fortune and loved ones for granted ;)

I'm looking forward to a portal storm, or similar event, and have a crowbar almost five feet long prepped and polished, just in case. More of a solid steel prybar, really, but I can just about lift it!

See you on the other side, Escapists.

Whats the bet that if they do somehow open a super portal that drops thousands of head crabs on earth, that the media blames the half-life games for influencing the men and women at CERN to do it?
That's hilarious. "Were video games behind the LHC incident?" Tune in at 10 to find out as our investigative reporter goes behind the scenes...

stop being paranoid, the kinetic energy of the collision will be equal as if 2 mosqitos collided. And by the way, Mr.Supercomputer (stephen hawkings) and the best world's scientists said that all will be ok.

I hope it will create a black hole that destroys everything. But then giant words appear in the endless void reading...

"Is is wrong of me to go under the cynical impression that whatever is discovered with the Hadron Collider will inevitably just be used to kill people in new and interesting ways?"

I totally agree with you, I was just thinking the same thing.

I thought that the LHC was supposed to open a doorway to other dimensions via the Oxymandias Effect. By doing this, it is theorized that a gigantic squidlike monster with a "brain cloned from a human sensitive will burst out of a portal in downtown NY and the resulting shockwave will kill half the city." If Mr. Oxymandias says its probable then it must be true. He is the smartest man on Earth after all. But again, this is all theory.

There aren't going to be any collisions at the LHC until October 21, at the earliest. Today is simply a test to get a beam through the entire thing.

The strength of a black hole is dependent on its mass. Since all of these black holes are so tiny, they will neither suck the world into its center or explode, destroying the solar system.

So celebrate.

I thought the theory was that while there is the energy to spawn black holes, they'd be so small they'd simply evaporate harmlessly.
Makes it sound less exciting to some, but as a physics nerd I can't wait to hear about what happens. You reckon we'll find the Higgs?
you DO know what happens when a black hole dies, dont you?!
if a black hole (even a tiny one) runs out of mass in it, it will die out, creating a huge explosion more powerful than 300 hydrogen bombs
Er..no. Black holes evaporate due to a thing called Hawking Radiation.

You can tune in to BBC Radio 4 for a whole day on the LHC.

But I still haven't got the high score on Pacman noooooooooooooooooooo.......

We'll live, if it was likely to kill us a politician would have killed the project by now.

You are assuming that politicians want us to live. Possibly a mistake....

I'd just like to point out that I'm still alive, even though the LCH was turned on at 9:28am GMT and it is now 1:39pm GMT...

Same here. :p Wait, Maybe the scientists got drunk last night and are late for their shift at the facility!

Not sure about that - when they need to 'de-rail' one of the speeding hadrons they've built a 1000 tonne block of graphite to absorb the impact of the collision. I mean, the bugger's going at 99.9% the speed of light; that's a lot of energy!

The annoying thing about the LHC is it's name. Hadron Collider I'm fine with, but "large"?
Hey! Try accidently mixing the R and the D when searching for Hadron in wikipedia. Boy was that awkward!
