I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if the FFA is any good in MW2, it's the only thing I really like about the original's multiplayer but nobody plays it anymore ;D

OP: Sorry, I'm not much help seeing as I haven't played FFA... but I reckon it is sufficiently crazy for a player to run around with a Tac-knife and do well.

It is terrible. The spawn locations are so abysmal that you will throw your controller at the screen in rage. Its fun to play with friends, but anymore than 6 people(it goes up to 8) and be prepared to not live longer than 5 seconds.

No, it's full of douchebags boosting for nukes. It's practically unplayable. Oh and god forbid you die because you'll more than likely respawn right next to someone, especially if you're playing on Terminal.

[EDIT]

If you can get into a lobby without boosters (good luck) then FFA can be pretty fun; especially since most of the people who play it are generally terrible at the game and if you are in any way competant you can usually place at least 3rd place in every single game you play.

This, this, this this. Why the hell did IW decide to allow parties in FFA? Dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

Did they? Last time I checked, they didn't.

What DOES happen is that somebody will join a public room and then immediately invite friends so they can play in the same FFA room. It's not 100% guaranteed to work, since you might join a room in progress or a full lobby, but with a little patience, you can get a party in there.

I did do this with a friend a few times in WaW, but the most boosting we did was hole up in a building and defend each other...it's how I got my record killstreak of 27. And even then, it didn't work half the time because we would turn around and accidentally kill each other. :p

EDIT: I don't usually play FFA, but the few times I have, I've placed in the top 3 if not #1. Also, I don't marathon/lightweight/tac-knife in FFA; I usually use the SCAR or TAR.

You said it (although I think you meant friends as opposed to parties). MW2 is frustrating at the best of times but FFA just takes the cake. The only way to find them (the boosters) and stop them is to stick on a marathon, lightweight and ninja class and run around the map sound-whoring until you find them. If you don't have a headset you may as well not even bother and just leave the game.

My favourite mode, personally. It's quite fun in a mindless action sense, and everyone who plays seems to be marginally less annoying than on other modes.

There's no Hardcore-FFa (For some really clever game-design decision that only allows one third of the game modes to be played on hardcore aka be some much as bearable), so unlike cod4 where I liked ffa very much, Ive never bothered in Mw2.

Hoever, given the clever spawning system, that allos you to spawn in front of enemy guns / clays even in team modes, I assume ffa to be quite frustrating.

Yeah It's pretty fun. Some maps are too big for it though. But The Nuke-boosters and headshot boosters make it unplayable if they get in your game. It ruins my concentration too because i have to pay attention to who is getting kills and look for the signs ( same person killing the same person over and over every 5 seconds) and that takes focus off your own gameplay. Knowing where they usually do it helps too but its annoying to do bad for many rounds while your running around hunting them.

It's one of the only things I play, only do different types when playing with friends.
Never encountered any boosters either, one guy had a nuke once, but he ran around a lot.
I'm usually pretty average, 4th of 5th, but that's because I hardly played any shooters before this, I hope...

Pandah has it right, the spawn points in MW2 are already a little wonky, but in FFA they are terrible.
I don't really recommend it other than for getting the challenges complete.

It's really only useful for getting that 1 or 2 kills to complete a challenge, or when you've been shafted with an incompetent team on on any team-based play-list more times than you care to remember and you just want to kill every moving thing in sight.

Otherwise, I'd advise you to stay away. Prolonged exposure will lead to an inevitable rage-quit.

It's badly broken.

Spawns are horrible, everyone camps in corners, cheats and boosters everywhere and killstreaks ruin the fun.

Ugh.
