Oh come on, does it hurt to raise the price of the game ? Think how much effort goes into a game - have you ever bought an expensive game that was bad ? I can't think of any.
The problem is, as with the music industry, it isn't the developers who get the gold at the end of the day! no it is the publishers and it cost them what? 20 cents? A buck? maybe five? to mass produce a single copy of a game. They then up the price as much as they think they can bleed from people. The developers get the same amount of money at the end of the day if the games where selling for half the price they are now, they get a agreed on amount prior to the publishing and releasing of said game...
In fact they would get more over all, cause more sales mean more royalties. Just look at the profits that publishers make off the game and music industry. THAT is where the money is going... not to the developers.
Actually... it is probably why steam came about in the first place: To get rid of the publishers and their mark ups! Steam is still making money fist over fist, even with a lower price then shelf born copies, so they have to be doing something right.
PS: All of us here probably have bought a game we regretted, expensive ones can be bad too. Price isn't any indication of quality. Psyconaughts (sp) comes to mind as a game that DID NOT cost a ridiculous amount and was far better developed then many main stream games.
