The difference he's pointing out here is that in other games, it's always been fictional cities. Even in CoD4, it was in entirely fictional cities (except Chernobyl).

I'm not saying I'm on this guy's side, just that I see his point.
Not so. As has been pointed out there are plenty of games with actual cities we've been glassing. I named but two of them earlier: DEFCON and Red Alert 2. In CoD games I'm fairly certain we've been in 'real' cities as well. Berlin and Stanlingrad spring to mind, but those might have been Medal of Honor games instead.

Why is it to far? I cant stand nuts with their constant blubbering about this sort of stuff. How is this different from anything seen on tv or read in a book for that matter? Its not but older generations just dont understand the medium and we are scared of what we dont understand.

I dont think its unfair. Religion is religion and should be separate from all else. Christianity (and all other faiths) is the equivalent of reading the entrails of a chicken pure and simple. If you want to believe in talking snakes and arks thats fine go for it, but I dont think its very wise to bring ideas like that into any other field.

So it's fine if the White House gets blown up in a big budget Hollywood action flick but heaven forbid a game should do anything similar.

you fought in stalingrad in CoD2. was that too 'striking?'

to see people DIE as they fought over the REAL LIFE CITY?

how is this any different?

All I can read is: Modern Warfare 2 Trailer Critized For "Being Too Awesome"

I kid, I kid, but I think it's a bit silly, it's just a video game, if it was any other country I doubt anyone would cry out, but of course America is special.

I mean, it's not like America is the only country that has been attacked by terroist but now they make a big deal out of every single thing that comes there way, especially in video games.

I mean, it's not like your playing at the terrorist, unless there is a multiplayer map in the ruins of DC, which I would so love!

It would hardly be possible for a terrorist group to get a military presence large enough to actually pose a serious threat to US militia forces let alone the actual Army on US soil. Can you even imagine the logistics?
Firstly, who said it's a foreign invasion? The dirty secret of American history is that, historically, Americans have killed far more Americans than anyone else has. You've had a bloody civil war already, and you have plenty of "militia" movements in your past. Domestic terrorism (including police response) has killed more US citizens than all foreign-originated terrorist events combined. But no one talks about that in the US, it seems...

Secondly, please thank Mrs. Madison and tell her she sets an excellent table [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burning_of_Washington#Events]. Though the specifics of that event won't be repeated in modern times, there is historical precedent. (The odds of which improve dramatically if, as noted above, there's a fifth column movement already in place.)

-- Steve
I think the reason for supposing that it is a foreign invasion is the content of the voiceover.

If we WERE talking about an internal schism, maybe even with a split within the military (like the US Civil War), then the imagery in the trailer makes a lot more sense (but it doesn't explain the voiceover). Both from the historical perspective of conflict within the US that you bring up, and from a modern-geo-political perspective.

I don't think we should dismiss anything from the Christian Science monitor because of the Christian part, seems rather unfair.

However I'm pretty sure there's no Atheist code of conduct, and Stalin wasn't following it when he had those people killed. Also Stalin seemed more like a troubled Christian than an Atheist as he seemed to flit between believing and following messages from god to having all the churches closed and imprisoning the priests.
I'm just pointing out the sweeping over-generalization. I'm not trying to attack atheists in any way.

I don't agree with this guy, just so you know.

Medal of Honor is one thing, but we're talking about a terrorist attack on an extremely realistic DC here. I appreciate that realism, but some people don't.

Lol, I wonder how these people will react to seeing the USA get completely destroyed in a realistic fashion in the movie 2012 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz86TsGx3fc].

Let's see what they'll have to say about that.

Soooo... when Hellgate: London came about, I should have been whining? Of course not. It's a collection of pixels, not an actual real city being blown up. Seriously though, some people need to get rid of their hubris and actually realise that shit like this could happen.

LOLWUT? That man can shut his stupid fucking mouth shut along with the rest of that organization. I didn't hear him ***** about an atom bomb going off in a fucking city in the first Modern Warfare.

I mean, you still play as the Marines and the S.A.S. it's not like it switches perspectives to the Separatists in the game.
