That's... That's... That's horrible!
Not because it's Call of Duty. Not because it's the best selling game ever. Not because it's Activision. And not because Bobby Kotick is made of pure, monetized evil.
It's because there will be more and more games now than ever that will try to jump on this success bandwagon and fail. Or succeed, but not as much. It's a waste of money, talent, resources, creativity and time.
Instead of forwarding the industry, the gamers themselves will just drive it into stagnation. And Call of Duty itself will be stagnating pretty soon. Ten years from now people will be staring at the emptiness of the Call of Duty servers (or lobbies) and wondering what the hell they spent their money on, while looking at the next third installment of the then current multiplayer craze that they're going to spend $70 bucks on, repeating the endless cycle of massive publisher copy-paste-bugfix-new map bullshit.
(Do mind that I'm not a clairvoyant, but this is merely how I see it impacting the industry)
Not to mention that many actually good and creative designers with innovation and vision are losing money because of it.
