So Escapists, as the title suggests, I'm participating in a Modern Warfare 3 competition come launch day on the 8th. Team Deathmatch, 2 players in a team, 5 minute round, no streak perks, otherwise all allowed, random maps.

Now I've played quite a lot of MW1 but no MW2 or Black Ops (I simply didn't like them that much and decided they would not be money well spent). I'm quite good at MW1, but I do realize that my skill comes from:

1) knowing every nook and cranny of the maps, and exploiting that to the fullest (not only camping, but knowing where they might show up from, what corners to watch, where to point my gun when entering a room, etc),
2) Being very familiar with how my weapons behave, recoil, accuracy, reload time, etc
3) Playing hardcore mode exclusively. That means that most guns are 1 shot kills in the chest. I know that is not the case in normal mode.

None of these will apply since I won't get a chance to play the game beforehand. ( I might watch a few matches depending on how the teams are lined up, but I could very well go first) and it won't be hardcore

Some tips and insight into the newer CoD titles, or maybe some old war stories from the more veteran escapists would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, I was considering going for a bit of a noobish build: Juggernaut, NoobTube, probably a LMG. Tough I will probably have an assault build: either silent running or extra sprint (considering they still exist ofc) with a M4A1 or similar, maybe a perk for extra damage and a 3rd build with maybe claymores, a decent long range weapon (not a sniper) something along the lines of the G3.

You have one thing going for you; no one will know the maps. Since it's not hardcore go for an assault class and just remember to tap the trigger when firing. Go for a run initially and try to catch your opponents off guard, it works for me.

During my time with MW2 I found various strategies which allowed people to win the game with little effort. Let me list them for you.

The drug taking Olympic sprinter class:
Any pistol with the Tac-knife
Marathon Pro
Lightweight Pro
Commando Pro

The one man demolition team class:
Any assault rifle with a grenade launcher
One man army pro
Danger close pro
Steady aim pro

The elite close quarters sniper class:
Any sniper rifle (preferably the intervention)
Sleight of hand pro
Stopping power pro
Ninja pro

Pick either and hear the enemy team rage!

Most of these suggestions are obsolete due to what they've removed.

- Commando is gone, noob tubes are weakened and there is a perk that lessens blast damage.
- Juggernaut also isn't in the game as well, nor is there a perk for extra damage.
- Extreme conditioning is the sprinting perk, and it no longer offers infinite sprinting; just longer.
- All guns have an idle sway similar to that of scoping in with a sniper rifle.
- Hardline is gone, replacing it is a weapon proficiency that allows for two attachments.

I'd imagine you'll have some warm-up time before anything official gets going, so use that time to find a gun you like. Because the perks are changed around enough to the point where everybody will be scrambling to find a setup they like.

As for some guns/equipment/perks:
- The ACR is back and doesn't seem to be too different from it's MW2 version, so it'll be a damn accurate gun.
- The FADS is a new gun and looks to have an insanely high fire-rate while maintaining some accuracy, worth checking out.
- The UMP is back as well, has a bit more kick than it's MW2 counter-part, but it'll be a good gun for a running class still.
- The bouncing betty is back and will be a good equipment to just use and forget, toss it down and wait on somebody to run by it, essentially a quick claymore to put down. Conversely, if you hear the click from one, go prone and it won't downright kill you, but it'll still hurt.
- The trophy system is an equipment that blocks grenades, blowing them up midair before they can reach you, assuming it is placed properly. This would be good if you wanted to setup in a spot and not have to fear a grenade getting you(it only blocks two I believe).
- Motion sensors are back as well, so if you want an idea of where an enemy might potentially be those would be useful as well.
- Assuming they are going to utilize private matches and let you pick your stuff, all pro perks and proficiencies for guns will be available. Blast shield pro blocks explosive damage to an extent and the pro version lessens stun and flash grenade effects. I'd recommend this.

Your best bet is an assault class or something quick with a sub-machine gun. You've only got five minutes so they likely will have a smaller map and you'll want to be able to get around quicker and get kills faster. So sniping won't be very effective here especially when it's two man teams, an LMG might be useful, but if it's a smaller map; anybody who gets the drop on you will have a pretty big advantage.

I can't think of much else, but I think I covered some pretty good points.

Thanks for the tips.

The ACR sounds like a good bet, I've played a little MW2 and it felt like a very good weapon (I prefer accurate weapons)

Not too sure about the warm-up time, but I at least hope they will give me enough time to check out all the perks and weapons so I can make an informed decision.

I will most likely go for silent running rather than long sprinting. I personally use audio queues a lot in the game, and I've scored many a kill because I could hear an opponent moving around. Also in a 2v2 sprinting can put me in a bad situation if the enemy surprises me. I likely won't sprint at all, at least unless I know exactly where both of them are.

Anything to make the noobtube less.... noobish is appreciated, and since it got a nerf I'll most likely not even consider it. Heck, as long as it's not a 1shot kill, i'm fine with it.

Gonna have to see what that idle sway is like. MW1 has the same thing except for 1 (maybe 2) guns, based on their accuracy score. The sway is visible with acog/red dot sights. The G3 and (possibly) M4 don't have it, making them my favorite long range weapons (well, the G3 at least, the M4 kicks like a mule)

Oh, as for the maps, they will be randomly chosen from the entire map pool, but players will have the option to blacklist 2-3 maps.

1 Make sure your teammates kicks ass.
2 Play smart.

That's it. All AR in MW games are decent, and will kill fairly easily as long as you see them first. Just don't expose yourself, and make sure your partner can hold up his end.
