What is with people and calling Notch lazy/slow or saying that final game is not come out or it is taking to long. this is not like ep.3, the END to a game that has been in the works for 4+ years. Do any of you know how old Minecraft is?! Classic, Classic! came out on May 17, 2009 and Final! will by coming out some time between November 18th and 20th of this year!(2011). That is only 2 and 1/2 years! from Classic to Final. So please can we stop with this.

...Since when has there ever been anything about Mojang running on Valve Time? o_O this is the first I have ever heard anyone complain of this...

Besides, MineCraft is playable, even though its in development. So long as that stays the same, I don't mind if they keep developing and adding stuff to the game for all eternity :p

Yes but it's hardly going to be a compelling narrative. Garry's Mod didn't take 2 and a half years.

The only people who ***** about Notch taking too long or taking 'too many' holidays, are the self-entitled pricks who think that owning the game gives them a right to demand what goes in it and when.

Exactly! I've seen people going on like "Notch should be forcibly removed from his position in head development, and the Minecraft project should be handed over to someone who knows how to run it!"

Not really, Notch has made huge profits without even finishing his game. That's pretty awesome. Releasing the initial beta for sales is a great idea. It's amazing he's the first to really put it into action. Guess what? Games take time to finish. The difference is you're seeing it from the inside.

Some people over on the Minecraft Forums are getting pissy because the "updates take too long to come out".

Of course, everyone knows that all of the Minecraft Forums some of the people on Minecraft Forums are idiots.

Thank you! if you look at the comments of the "Scrolls" trailer you can see a bit of what I'm talking about but I've seen it other places that i can not remember how to find.

yes but Garry's mod is A MOD! most of the work was done for them via the games needed to run it.

Mojang is kind of a hobby developer which is different to Valve's "Valve Time". Mojang works with concepts and very gradually shapes them up, making people pay for unfinished beta versions to fund further development of their games. It's an interesting model and it seems to be working for them but it won't work for all games. Minecraft is lucky in this regard and Mojang have been fortunate that Minecraft was received well enough to fund other projects, namely Scrolls.

I don't see Mojang as a very good developer though. Won't get into it, just my personal opinion.

I admit, I went ages without getting into the minecraft thing at all. It was only recently that I tried the free, then paid for the full game. And I have learned what keeps people coming back to it, all while it was still in beta.
I say, let it stay there. Allow the devs to continue to add and change things to make the world more immersive. (Please GOD make farming/ranching an actually viable part of the game. I have hundred yard row after row of wheat and sugar cane that are only good for like 3 things at most.)
As yahtzee said, in essence: Don't do shit to please the fans, do shit to make your game better.

Edit: For those of you that don't get the admittedly probably too-subtle point of my post. Minecraft is still a beta. It's not a so-called finished and released project. People that want Mojang to adhere to the same schedule for a game that is still in beta at this point to match that of a released game that needs patching are just silly, IMO. People that have paid for a licensed copy of minecraft will have theirs updated automatically upon release of the finished game. But it hasn't been released as a finished game.
Valve releases finished games and then fixes them to the demand of problems pointed out by their consumers. But with a patch it's often on a very strict timetable that will sometimes break other core aspects of the game just because they are demanded.
At least Mojang seems to be sorta doing it right by not releasing a "legitimate" version of the game when they're still tweaking shit.

I take it you haven't seen just how much vacation the guy takes. =p I'll just link you to the (in)famous image. Here you go. [http://i53.tinypic.com/r73yps.png]

So I can't entirely blame people who call him lazy, because that quite frankly is much more vacation time than any of us get.

I'm confused about this idea of ripping on notch too. i've never heard any griping but to be fair I don't frequent the MC forums whatsoever. Kinda glad i don't too after reading this.

Notch may not be the best dev but I'll reserve any major judgment til we see how Scrolls goes. Definitely minecraft succeeded in this fashion but mainly because you create your own fun so it's not as though there was an overarching plot we needed more of like for most games.

My only other beef is the amount of focus they place on putting in new features versus focus on fixing bugs. They really show their inexperience there. Single player is usually fixed fairly quick and they seem to figure that's good enough and go on to more new features while The amount of bugs left in multiplayer gets really frustrating. If anyone asks i'll dig up examples for my arguments but I'm on my way out and just wanted to toss in my two cents.

I didnt know anyone was saying that Mojang ran on Valve Time now, and more to the point didnt Valve say about half a year ago that they hadnt started any work on Episode 3 at all?

Also Mojang is at least straight with uncertain releases. The Scrolls teaser said "coming eventually", which i think is fine, where in Valve's case it would be a last minuite delay after a certian release point as has been the case many times before.

[small]Please note that i still worship Valve's games. Especially Team Fortress 2.[/small]

Excuses, excuses... I don't really care to be honest, even when it's properly released I doubt I'll go back to playing it. It is fun but there's only so long I can amuse myself with building minecart networks and castles before I get bored and go back to New Vegas.

Well, given that he stated that he may never finish the game, and might even release it to public domain if it ever gets finished, I think we should just wait till he gets bored and wanders off, and then let the modding communities take over the project.

Maybe we could get some of the Morrowind modding crews to work on it? Those guys are beyond dedicated, hahaha.

This exact same thing happens on the Project Zomboid forums (It's being sold similarly to Minecraft, it's in alpha right now, costs 8 bucks, and is available on Desura). Both games are great as they are now, and I find it amazing that people complain still.

I'm pretty sure he's said he's going to continue adding more to the game once it's officially out.

I also agree. Don't do shit to please the fans. Do shit to make the game better (cough cough easier for idiots like me to download a mod. I have owned it for almost a year and trying to download stuff is like my own personal Da Vinci code).

And so far the main updates he has been coming out with are superb.

This pretty much sums up my opinion. First, I was completely unaware anyone was complaining about Minecraft's development speed, and secondly, I hope they do keep adding to it for all eternity. That's how Dwarf Fortress works, and getting new things all the time is great!
