The only people who ***** about Notch taking too long or taking 'too many' holidays, are the self-entitled pricks who think that owning the game gives them a right to demand what goes in it and when.
that would be nice...

I'm pretty sure he's said he's going to continue adding more to the game once it's officially out.

well post-final updates most likely will be DLC-ish, small side projects they will do as they work on there next game "Scrolls"

Yes but it's hardly going to be a compelling narrative. Garry's Mod didn't take 2 and a half years.
It certainly helps that Minecraft doesn't have a narrative. :p

You want a game with narrative, find a game with story. AAA games like the Half Lifes, Indie games like Bastion (godDAMN does that game have an amazing story).

You want narrative, you do NOT get Minecraft :p It's a sandbox construction-cum-survival game. Looking for story there is like looking for good driving mechanics in a 2d platformer.

What is with people and calling Notch lazy/slow or saying that final game is not come out or it is taking to long. this is not like ep.3, the END to a game that has been in the works for 4+ years. Do any of you know how old Minecraft is?! Classic, Classic! came out on May 17, 2009 and Final! will by coming out some time between November 18th and 20th of this year!(2011). That is only 2 and 1/2 years! from Classic to Final. So please can we stop with this.
I take it you haven't seen just how much vacation the guy takes. =p I'll just link you to the (in)famous image. Here you go. [http://i53.tinypic.com/r73yps.png]

So I can't entirely blame people who call him lazy, because that quite frankly is much more vacation time than any of us get.
...I can't believe someone took the time to put this calendar together...it's a bit creepy/stalkerish actually.

I think what people need to remember is:

They are prepared to pay for a game that Notch makes.

Notch has made/is making a huge amount of money out of this game, for perhaps not so very much work (in physical man hours).

In Notch's case, money + spare time = vacation! People are just jealous of the fact that Notch is making a lot of (apparently) easy money, and want to see him sweat and stress for it, as though they are paying him to be their personal game manufacturer.

Life's not like that. If you don't want the man to have money, don't play the game. Anyway, I thought that Minecraft was supposed to be like Lego - i.e. you should be able to make endless things out of just the original bits. What do you need rapid fire updates for unless the game is actually non-functional?

Note: not actually snapping at you Pedro, or anyone in particular =P The calendar thing just...freaked me out.

I just sort of get mad when he does stuff like work on that 48 game, but then realise I have to right to. I'm just bored with Minecraft and really want the update so I can have fun again.

Who cares how long they take, as long as Valve and Mojang both continue to make great games I'm fine with it.

I will buy Episode 3 anyway, whenever it's done.

Funny thing is, if they read the agreement from when they bought the game, they ONLY bought the alpha or beta.
They bought the game "as-is" and Notch is not REQUIRED to continue development at ALL.

Quite frankly I'm sick of the people rushing him for releases and making him pick release dates, I blame THEM for a lot of the major bugs that broke the game tbh >.<

Whats worse is you have the majority rush him, but as SOON as it's shown the update brought in more bugs everyone yells "Omfg you should have spent more time on it"...

I honestly don't care about either subject. Besides, I rather valve (or any company for that matter) take their time instead of having another Duke Nukem Forever situation.

You do know on average a swedish person get 35 days of vacation yearly? and why on earth does that chart count 7days per week as vacation, seeing how most people do 5 days on average... not to mention a lot of holidays are around January,February and March which means no work either T.T"

As creepy as this dude was I can tell straight away he does not live in Sweden or did research about what´s the norm here.

That aside I would still argue that they work on Valve time, it´s done when it´s done! I'm pretty sure the scrolls trailer said.

did you not read the part were it said that it was coming of THIS NOVEMBER! I like mods, some are really good (airship) but some are not with the feel of minecraft (guns) and more over NOTCH MADE THE GAME so please give him some respect.
Just saying that the communities are the ones that keep a game alive after the creators have moved on, first through force or otherwise.

And yes, while some mods add little bits and pieces while not adding anything to gaming as a whole, mods and modders have never been given the credit for being the driving force in change in games and the gaming landscape that they have been.

I didn't mean any disrespect to Notch, just pointing out the facts. And if he wasn't okay with it, he wouldn't have made the game so easy to mod, to the point where he incorporates ideas from mods in his updates. We have a long time to enjoy a constantly changing Minecraft world whether Notch is directing it or not, and I'm sure that idea actually excites him.

I think the main beef the community has with notch is the sheer inconvenience notch's updates cause.

Quite frankly, the modding community for minecraft have made it a whole new game. This consent slew of mods is what keeps sandbox driven games like G-mod alive, and its no different for minecraft. The game gets boring at some point for most people, and a fresh gameplay mechanic changes that.

Notch however puts out updates inconsistently, that are by no means BAD but compared to such mods offered by the community aren't worth his updates breaking all the mods every single time. Even IF notched put out unbroken masterpieces, one masterpiece is not worth a shitton of good mods breaking.

After typing this I've realized its been quite awhile since I've played mincraft. Perhaps his updates don't break mods now? I doubt it, however.

sorry, your oc just reminded me of this one prick who said that Notch needed to be removed and the game given to the moders. Like I said, I like some mods (Notch, Please add the hot air balloon mod to the game).

I think it's a good move.

It won't earn them any more money, because that's all joining Valve's Juggernaut steam is all about. Getting as much money from the game as you can.

I read Mojangs reason for not going to Valve, and it seemed good enough to me. No doubt when Minecraft is completed it will find its way to steam. But not in the near future.

Looking at that chart, it seems like he's working at weekends. Most people don't work during weekends in Sweden. Instead of looking at how much vacation he takes, look at how many days he spends working.

TWENTY THOUSAND HOURS IN MSPAINT

I find that picture hilarious because the Notch updates sound like an episode list for a Mr. Bean style show starring Notch (in which he's contantly on vacation).

"Notch takes the day off to play Call of Duty"

"Notch goes to a film festival"

"Notch takes a vacation because he bought a Pandora"

"Notch loses key to office"

Don't tell me those don't sound hilarious. Someone's gotta write this shit. The Notch Show.

It's sad to say but, freaking modders, not professionals , have done a ton of content in 10 times less time that Mojang takes, sorry Notch, you're my hero but, from the 1.8 stuff we've seen at PAX, I'm not so shure about the quantity of content...
