Molydeux Turns Cubist in Curiosity Spoof

Peter Molyneux's Twitter twin asks "what is in the Cube?"

Are you tantalized by the thought of Peter Molyneux's Curiosity? Would you give anything to know what the crazed madman - or inspired genius, as the case may be - is planning? Well, you're in good company, as Molyneux's Twitter twin Molydeux is in the same boat. Unlike most of us, Molydeux can do something about it; he's posted a spoof trailer of Molyneux's upcoming game, claiming that the unimaginable is just inside the cube.

Curiosity is the first of many planned games from Molyneux's new studio, 22Cans (or 22Pans, if this trailer is to be believed). In it, players will be equipped with a chisel and asked to perform one, solitary function: chip away at a large, featureless cube. Players can purchase new chisels that chip away larger potions of the cube, but only the person responsible for final strike will be granted a peek at what was worth all that hassle - what was inside.

"It will expand our minds beyond this world," the spoof claims, "it will make the God particle seem smaller than the atom." Science humor aside, Molydeux doesn't know anything more than the rest of us about Molyneux's sinister scheme for world domination cunningly disguised as a game. Or at least, he probably doesn't. Molyneux is on record as saying he enjoys Molydeux's Tweets, and the two may have met at least once, at indie game fest Molyjam. There's always the chance that Molydeux has access to privileged information, which means the spoof could actually contain some truths.

Or it might just be a joke. Yeah, that's probably it.

I am unamused and not at all enthralled. Why, if this discovery is so important, would you hide it? It's not as important as they say. It's all hype and whatnot. Anyone with a shred of intelligence would easily be able to deduce this.

I hope if i do decide to waste some time clicking a button and I discover whatever the hell is inside the box, I would ransom it. Not keep it from the world, or tell everyone, I would keep it to myself until I received 1 million dollars.

You know the trailer is a joke, riiiight? Molydeux != Molyneux.

The official statement on what's in the cube is that it's "life-changing", whatever that means.

Well yeah, I still don't see it as important as Molyneux is claiming it to be. It's simply a cash grab based on one of the most primal human urges. He may deny that all he likes, but that's all I see whenever I hear about this. Frankly, the thought of someone making a game JUST to make money is a little irritating to me. Making money should be a benefit to making a game, not a reason to make a game.

Of course Molyneux met Molydeux at Molyjam! Molyjam was about Molydeux. It wasn't just an indie game festival. I've posted about this before, but seriously, go check it out. The entire premise of the event was indie game developers making games based on Molydeux tweets.

Anyway, I'm extremely curious about this experiment and will be putting in at a least help in opening the cube.

I'm looking forward to the game's release, and fallout.

I believe this is where I should insert a "That's the joke" picture.

This game will become irrelivant once the contents are posted on Youtube.
Unless the one person who gets to see the contents doesn't record it.

I think its likely that everyone who will participate in this endevore will have some kind of recording modual active for if they are the one, and if not, they will most likely simply say what it is on the internet, and within hours it will most likely be found here on the Escapist...

Even better.
Expand on Molyneux's experiment.
Start a Kickstarter where people donate to have you reveal what was inside.
BUT!

The reward tiers would be something like this.

$5
Find out what was in the box, unless a higher tier is filled.

$15 Limited Reward (100)
Find out what was in the box, unless a higher tier is filled. If 100 people donate for this reward, all previous tiers will be unfulfilled.

[etc.]

$1,000,000 Limited Reward (1)
Only you find out what's in the box, making everyone else's donations completely redundant, congratulations.

Will one person ruin it for everyone?
Only time will tell.
