Molyneux Aims High With Fable 3 Sales

Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux has some big numbers in mind when it comes to Fable 3.

Despite what you may think of the Fable games - or certain members of the design team - no one can deny that they sell pretty well. The first two Fable games managed to sell around three million copies each, but Molyneux wants Fable 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Fable-III-Xbox-360/dp/B002I0JGDM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1281625366&sr=8-1 ] to take things to another level.

"We want more than five million people playing Fable 3 on the Xbox 360, full stop," he said, adding that he felt it was a much less cluttered and more balanced game than previous titles in the series, and had a better story and cast. "More clarity, better story, better cast, better balance ... Of course, we have to do all this still with fresh ideas and a new feel to the game."

Back in June [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101798-Fable-3-Needs-to-Earn-150-Million-to-Prevent-Withering], Molyneux talked about needing to make profits in excess of $150 million with Fable 3 in order to prevent the series from "withering," and again mentioned the sales target of five million copies. What's interesting is that this time he is only talking about Xbox 360 sales, suggesting that the total sales target for the game is even higher.

It's certainly not impossible for Fable 3 to sell that many copies on the 360, but it's not going to be easy. A lot of work seems to have gone into making the game more accessible than its predecessors however, so perhaps it will meet its target after all. Fable 3 is released for Xbox 360 on October 26th, with a PC version coming later.

Well, I'll be renting it this go around. I was disappointed in the last one. If it seems worthy, I'll buy it.

Even Peter Molyneux can be redeemed. Hell, if I'll give Two Worlds 2 a rental, I'll give Molyneux a chance to change my mind about this series.

Do not simply post links. Contribute to the discussion, even if the link says what you want it to.

I own a PS3, so I can't purchase it. I used to have an XBOX and loved Fable 1, but this exclusivity shit reams me sometimes.

Best I can really say is "Oh well, going to the PS3 as well would increase your numbers..."

Is this really news?

I mean, "Wow! Peter Molyneux is overstating the potential success of his games! That CRAZY guy! Hey Escapist, what are your thoughts on the moisture levels of water? What's that? It's WET???!!!! WOW!!!!!11!!"

Why am I not suprised? Oh yeah, because Molyneux uses hype to fuel the robots that make the game (that's right, your secret's out, Molyneux). I just hope the game'll be as good as I expect... Or as good as Molyneux expects.

Thats a pretty high target he's going for, but this is Moleneux or however you spell his name, I only ever played Fable 1 and I was underwhelmed by it so I wouldn't go out and buy the sequels.

Not to mention I don't have an Xbox360 and this game will not get me to buy either the 360 or itself.

Edit: Okay I'll say something. Will someone tell me what's so special about Fable in the first place? Please try to keep it short.
Dude, seriously add more than just a link and when a member calls you out on it don't just put a "whats this game worth, keep it short".

If you haven't played the game fair dues, but don't link to a shit video.

The game is coming out for PC as well. You know, if the game gets good reviews, you should really try it, it's a bit silly being offput by a game that came out about 7 years ago. Fable 2 was so different to Fable 1, I really wonder how 3 is going to turn out, hopefully for the better.

I certainly know I shall be contributing to this game. Fable is one of my most beloved franchises.

I have a PC that can run it, but between just us I have a PS3 and Fable is a Microsoft funded game, therefore the law of fanboyism states that I automatically denounce that game as trash with no prior knowledge... I must also perform the second act of fanboyism right now and state...

.. fuck that man, I've got KillZone man!

Comparing Killzone and Fable is like comparing peanut butter and burgers: Two totally different things. I happen to like both though, as well as Killzone and Fable (2). :D

I have to install Fable 1 on my PC, so I only have Fable 2 to judge. It was pretty fun, not the greatest, but if anything I'd only give the 3rd a rent, assuming my 360 does not die on me. I doubt the dog is optional as in 2, and I really did not like the dog... and no, I'm not a 'cat' person either.

Fable is, to me, what Prince of Persia is the Yahtzee. I shall be buying this and anyone who disagrees can get eaten by a giant chicken.

Will someone please give Peter Molyneux a spark of inspiration.

The man is clearly capable of doing great things with games, but damn, when the well is dry the man just recycles.

Molyneux is basically the serpent in Adam & Eve, luring us with it's deceptive nature. My will shall be strong, I shall not falter!!! I've been fooled to many times before by Molyneux!!

...I'll probably give into deception once more though...

Better story? I've heard that before, and was horribly disappointed by how opposite the reality was. Although I guess that means it won't be so hard to top this time around.

Ok, that's been said, I'm looking forward to Fable 3 anyway, but will not be getting the collectors edition this time...I've learned my lesson from the Fable 2 one.
