I just finished Mass Effect 2 and had an experience towards the end that I dont think I have ever felt in a game.

Spoiler, sort of.

When in the Collector ship and you have the Biotic Barrier up to get through the Seeker Swarms, I picked a character I hated (namely Jack) to do the barrier for me, thinking she would die just like the last person I picked for a specialist mission (namely Jacob). When getting to the end of that area, Jack was slowing down, struggling to keep up the barrier and I though she will get shot or something. However, I got the end of the cutscene and then out of no where Thane ended up being carried away by the swarms.

Thane was one of my favourite characters in the game, but not only that I felt sad because he had only just reunited with his son Kolyat and now he will never get to see him again. Now, I guess that it only happened that way because of how I picked my characters in that last area, but still.

Has anyone else had something like this in games or is it just me?

Frequently in Red Dead Redemption
When Luisa gets shot and Reyes simply doesn't care. She believed in his cause, even loved him, and he couldn't even remember her name. As if I didn't hate the contemptible little bastard enough as it was
Oh, and the ending. If you've played it, you know what I mean.

A couple of times in Dragon Age 2, too. A number of events that felt like my fault, that I wanted to change... Haven't checked if I can in any of the cases, as it would remove the impact entirely
Mostly your mother's death, and that of Bethany/Carver in the deep roads
Say what you will about that game, if you get into it, it grabs you hard!
