Moments when the terrible community was right?

I'm a decently avid League of Legends player. The unfortunate side affect of this is that I'm part of one of the worst online gaming communities in the world. I openly recognize this as a small price to pay, and usually just ignore the community. So when I saw all the bitching on the forums about Riot breaking the game again with the latest patch, I dismissed it as the normal squabbling. When I saw the announcement of a log-in queue, I didn't think anything of it, because there are short queue's all the time, usually at most 30 minutes if the servers are really clogged. I could deal with that.

Then I tried to log-in and JESUS BEGORAH IT'S A FOUR HOUR QUEUE! Not only that, but I've been waiting for about 20 minutes now, and my place/wait time hasn't budged. Once, just this once, I had to concede that the general assholery of the community was correct, and that somebody dun fucked up bad.

This got me thinking: Does this happen in other gaming groups? I'm not really a part of any other online gaming community, so I can't speak from a broad base of experience, but it seems by the logic that even a broken clock is right twice a day this has to happen elsewhere.

It's normally the opposite, a lot of complainers essentially destroyed WoW, they all came in late to a game we all enjoyed, and then started asking for things to be changed because they didn't like the game that they were choosing to play. It was like somebody walking into your house that you'd been altering and changing for the last few years, and telling you that your wallpaper was wrong and that all of your furniture needed to be moved around because they didn't like it.

Although I know what you mean about LoL, I often share the views of the horrible, ragey and offensive people when it comes to game balance/server problems.
Especially when it comes to fucking DARIUS

Thing is with SPUF, they were bound to be right about something because they complained about every weapon and combo possible. If they would have listened to them about everything else they moaned about TF2 would be worse xD

Haha, yeah. For every "hey, maybe letting HWG instantaneously heal half his HP is a bad idea" there's 100 "but letting the Demoman trade the best weapon in the game for predicable short-range melee crits with a massive cooldown is OP T.T"

Yeah I have found myself sometimes agreeing with what I would consider a terrible part of the community, we all share some views sometimes. Although I do not agree with them for this thing with the LoL server. Im pretty sure they said the server was offline for maintenance or something and im not too bothered since I can go without LoL for a day or two, no big deal.

I don't see how someone can ask for what is pretty much free money just because the free to play game they enjoy was offline for a day with a straight face. People want free Riot points for this, the only other way to get them is to buy them. It's essentially asking for free money for like one or two day's worth of server trouble, I haven't cared enough to look into it so perhaps im wrong but what I have heard baffles me.

Hmmmm, what is it at level 3, up to 900+ True damage when passive is fully stacked?

It wouldn't be so bad if not for the refresh on it.

In fairness, this is on NA right? EuW used to have a tonne of log in issues about a year ago, where 2 hour queues were the norm. In the end, they had to compensate the players. I've heard that there are issues, but not at the scale of EuW at the moment.

Love how this thread has already derailed into a Darius is OP as fuck thread ^^

OT: Yeah came into this thread with LoL in mind as well. Sometimes the people crying about OP Rocket Grabs and Ashe Arrows end up being correct when a truly OP Champion comes around...

Seriously haaving a Darius on the team is quite relaxing during team fights. So scared this jungle fight ain't gonna go well! *Darius saunters in* Oh nvm we got this.

Some people in ranked we're going on about how Riven is OP in top lane when the other team picked her. Well nobody informed we of this fact when I was getting my exiled little ass blown the fuck up repeatedly by *tower diving Vladimir a few games previously

*I mean tower diving in the loosest possible sense. It's only a dive if you're in danger of it backfiring and dying by the tower. Vlad has no such problems. Fuck your pool Vlad, I hope you drown yourself with it.

EDIT: Ugh the servers are actually down... This better be because of Pulsefire Ez and not for some shitty technical issues! They better be up when I get round to my far too many hours session tomorrow!

It was NA, I don't know if EuW experienced similar issues. EuW was always an infrastructure issue though, their servers were all but literally made of shit. This go around they actually fucked up something on the technical end and ranked still isn't working because of it.

I could not agree with this statement more.

Are you kidding? Dr. Enforcicle is still a kickass build XD
Haha yeah, it's still a stack of upgrades. But at least it's not a stack of upgrades with disgusting levels of syngergy :)

(Although, come to think of it, that's not really true either. Spycicle + DR is still trolling pyros something ridiculous. But hey, at least I can fill up a plog on DR spies now.)

i dont think darius is op considering i went support sone 5 times with a darius on my time and they all failed.

anyways on topic, i usually do agree with the community about stuff when they blame the guy with 0/10/0 for the loss, though often it is the nearby guy who couldn't help him who gets the blame.

There's the change in playstyle that I'm fucking fine with, you go from being a guy who spends all his time taking out engineers and medics to someone who cheerfully goes about taking out anything that looks at him funny.

Ok, I just gotta ask - where do you people play your games? Ever since I started playing LoL, I've been hearing about the atrociously bad community that apparently does nothing but swear and *****. And while I've met the occasional douche (and promptly muted him), at least 3/4 of my games were without any noteworthy flaming or raging, maybe some slight bickering if we're losing. Sure, there was the occasional game that was nothing but flaming back and forth between my teammembers, but thats about it. Listening to people, you'd think every game was nothing but 100 words for penis.

Even more hillarious was my move to DOTA2. If there was one community that had a worse rep than LoL's, it was DOTA's (and HON's), and from all I've heard, it all migrated to DOTA2. Imagine my suprise when I found that people in DOTA2 are fairly well mannered, nobody really flames (I've had 3-4 real flamers in about 70 games), most people are just focused on the game and usually just focus on communication.

Seriously, what gives? Do I live in some bizzaro parallel universe or are people overstating the "horrible" communities?

That being said, communities are often correct. Tell them what you plan to do, and they'll be able to tell you if it'll suck balls. Everything from patches (LoL, WoW, etc.) to entire games (everyone told EA Syndicate would suck, and lo and behold, it did, etc.), gamers know what they DON'T want and publishers/developers have on average proven that they'll justify most pessimism levelled at them...
