Ok, I just gotta ask - where do you people play your games? Ever since I started playing LoL, I've been hearing about the atrociously bad community that apparently does nothing but swear and *****. And while I've met the occasional douche (and promptly muted him), at least 3/4 of my games were without any noteworthy flaming or raging, maybe some slight bickering if we're losing. Sure, there was the occasional game that was nothing but flaming back and forth between my teammembers, but thats about it. Listening to people, you'd think every game was nothing but 100 words for penis.
Even more hillarious was my move to DOTA2. If there was one community that had a worse rep than LoL's, it was DOTA's (and HON's), and from all I've heard, it all migrated to DOTA2. Imagine my suprise when I found that people in DOTA2 are fairly well mannered, nobody really flames (I've had 3-4 real flamers in about 70 games), most people are just focused on the game and usually just focus on communication.
Seriously, what gives? Do I live in some bizzaro parallel universe or are people overstating the "horrible" communities?
That being said, communities are often correct. Tell them what you plan to do, and they'll be able to tell you if it'll suck balls. Everything from patches (LoL, WoW, etc.) to entire games (everyone told EA Syndicate would suck, and lo and behold, it did, etc.), gamers know what they DON'T want and publishers/developers have on average proven that they'll justify most pessimism levelled at them...
