I nearly gave up on Skies of Arcadia quite early on in the game. I got the bit just after your dad has been arrested by Valua and have to go after him and the rest of the Blue Rogues. I got to the bit with all the mist, thought it was a barrier and couldn't find another way through.

I gave up on the game for a few months before deciding to give it another go, but before starting, I checked a guide on the internet and then slapped my forehead as I realised my stupidity. I went on to love that game.
I stopped that game because right after I defeated the red giant thing, I found a black pirate ship and tried to take it out. After I defeated the red giant thing again, I was going to the next location and all the random encounters made me quit.

The first time I played Devil May Cry- the original back when it was an original series/idea, I got hung up on the first boss. This came at a time when blistering difficulty was not something a game just had. I was so determined cause I could tell there was a great story behind this thing, and I just had to HAVE it! So I grinded those marionette men until I could afford as many green orbs as I could, and the biggest Devil Trigger bar as possible, without driving myself insane with grinding, and I beat that lava asshole into the ground (which is also where he retreated).

Now when I go back to him, he's one of my favorite boss battles still... and I wish he was harder.

First level of Deus Ex. Basically I was just like "dafuq is this shit?", after which I remembered my first experience with Fallout and gave the game a second chance. It turned out to be awesome.

X3 terran conflict. the first 15 hours of trying to learn the game is sheer hell. ships randomly blowing up for no clear reason, autopilot failure, etc.

europa 3. another game with a high learning curve.

Ocarina of Time: Water Temple. I actually did give up for a few years before finally returning to the game.

Yeah, the ramdom encounters at times got to be really annoying, however once you unlocked Aika's Lambda Burst move, it was basically the over powered "fuck you" move and all the petty little enemies could be wiped in one turn.
