I'd feel too guilty to take the 32gig model. I'd have to say I'd take the moral high ground and return it. I'd feel way to bad otherwise, and no-one wants to feel bad listening to their favorite music.

Honestly, I'd probably keep it.
The other customer will almost certainly get one as well, and I doubt the staff who's mistake it was would get fired unless they have a history of mistakes in the past.

I would keep it because im a jerk like that.

I also love the thought of someone not getting what they payed for.

I'd go back in the store and complain. Not only are you being honest, but there's a good chance they'll let you keep the 32 because they screwed up.

Tough one for me, this.

I'd probably keep it. After all, they let you walk out of the store with it... but the poor clerk who made the error - they may be fired if you keep the item, whereas if you return it they may let him or her off in a 'No harm done' kinda way.

I'm not sure what I'd do. Depends on my mood on the day, really.

I'd take it back. Mostly because of the clerk who would be in trouble and the other customer who paid all that money and got something not equal to that. Also if I went in wanting a lower gig that means that I could surive with that much, why get greedy and suddenly want 10000000 gigs? That leads to the dark side.

Why, good sir, I would abscond with said goods, as twas the own rather foolish fault of the aforementioned merchant in providing such a remarkably different product in exchange for your hard-earned currency.
Such a discrepancy is but a pittance in the hands of a lordly corporation such as Apple.

I'd stop and think for a moment what I should do. Then I'd probably just keep it. Considering this is such a commercial product, it wouldn't really conflict with my morals as chances are society will not be any worse off if I kept it, and the store was out that amount of money.

An interesting collection of responses - most of which appear to be erring on the side of honesty. Guess the gentleman in question should be taking it back to the store, then.

(Though I did appreciate the plan to return it, get a credit note and then go spend the difference on further beads and trinkets - truly dastardly!)

-I knew I shouldn't write posts that late at night, lol.
That's what you get when you procrastinate from assessments.
*Sigh*
Some-one come up with a reasonable one, I really can't think of anything.

-See, where I live, most stores will take it back opened or unopened, the only exception being that of DVD's/CD's[they caught onto the piracy thing the bastards! [Kidding btw]].

I don't want to jack the thread, but I want to present another moral quandary:

Situation 1: You are at a railroad track. Tied to the railroad track are five men, who can't escape. A train is coming. However, there is a lever that, if pulled, will allow you to shift the train onto an alternate track with only one man tied to it.

Do you pull the lever and make it run over the one man or simply let it run over the five men?

Situation 2: You are standing on a bridge. Below you is another railroad track with five men tied to the track. Another train is coming towards them, and will run over them. However, there is a large man standing on the bridge next to you. This man is large enough that it seems he will stop the train from running over the five men.

Do you push the man off the bridge into the path of the train or let it run over the five men?

My answers would be yes and no.
Situation 1, I'd switch the tracks. 5 lives are worth more than 1.
Situation 2, You mean as in the guy would be so big that the train would hit him and stop?
'cause y'know, I've seen trains when they get going, you could put a truckload of fat guys there and it'd still end up killing those 5 guys.
Idk I think you just go with it and don't question it. Basically the situation is you either save five people at the expense of one in the first situation, but in the second you have to murder someone to save the other five. It's basically a question that deals with morals in society.
It's a stupid way of saying it, they should've come up with a more common sense one.
Such as:
Situation 2:
You are in the back room of an import store. In the main room there are 6 people. A man has just walked in, he is between the people and the exit. You have an exotic gun in your hands, which you have just finished inserting a clip into to make sure it is functioning properly. The man who has just walked in, you are in the back room and he can't see you, he pulls a pistol out of the back of his belt, says calmly "You fuckers are dead." and proceeds to shoot one of the other customers in the head. He then aims at another person. Do you shoot the guy to save the other 5 people or do you let the police catch him later[remembering that your life is not in danger at all because he can't see you]?
I'd kill him if he can't see me. Honestley kind off an easy answer. And if he does see you before I kill him and he trys to shot me guess what. SELF-DEFENCE!!

I'm way too nice of a guy.

I'll walk out, notice there's been a mistake, start flipping out, thinking of how bad that guy's gonna feel if he didn't get what he wanted. I would have to take it back as soon as possible.

I do that alot. Especially in Wal Mart when my mom or sister take something out and then if they don't want it they just put it on a random shelf. I start yelling at them about how frickan' rude they are and grab it and take it back to where they got it, and usually nag them about it on the way home.

I'm way too nice. I really am. There's no reason to be rude to people you don't know.

I'd keep it. The store messed up, its their problem. Plus, I highly doubt that the person who bought the 32gb would be perfectly content with a 16gb model. He'd throw a pissy fit and he'd get what he paid for. It's a win win, except for the Apple store of course.

I would return it, only because of the price difference. If the price difference was, say, $20 or so, I would treasure my secret savings; but since the difference between the two items is considerably more, I would be forced to return it by what little conscience I have left.

However, I would only return it if I noticed it in the mall (I'm assuming this is in a mall), and not in the parking lot or later. I mean, I'm not a saint. Turning around, pshaw.

Nice use of the word 'erudite', by the way. 'tis truly a great word.

I'm all for being a nice but I'm more lazy then I am a morally correct.

Give it back! Its not yours and you didn't pay for it, which is the same as stealing!

Also, they might give you free stuff for your honesty. ^^

Pretend that the iPod was a birthday present for my child, and that me and my estranged wife had agreed on a price limit for our individual gifts so that the presents would be of similar quality and not influence the child's preference of parent at the upcoming custody battle.
But now I inadvertantly give the child the kickass iPod, not realising the mixup, and as a result lose custody of him when this apparent treachery is presented to the court as an example of my irresponsible parenting. Storm back to store with receipt, explain the situation, and threaten legal action until they give me lots of free stuff. Or maybe just a cash settlement. I don't know. That is a tough quandry.
