I would rather say a villain. Hero?... No. Why? Because giving someone a ticket to the trauma train isn't the nicest thing you can do on this planet. By saving this person you only did what you should have done which wouldn't happen if you created that situation in the first place.

*Edit: and perhaps make somone either distrust you (and even more people) or either see you as a misplaced savior.

Depends on the ramifications of saving said innocent. Do more suffer because that one continues to live?

A hero would spill his/her blood before spilling the blood of the innocent.
Again, depends on the ramifications. An idiot hero will save a life without thought. A true hero would consider the consequences of any action before taking a step.

like pushing someone near a cliff, then quickly grabbing them and saying "Saved your life"?

I'd say you were a moronic hero, I'm assuming you didn't intentionally put them in danger to hurt them, just for a laugh, then you risk your own life to save them. So you're stupid for putting them in danger, but heroic for saving them after your stupid idea backfired in an unforeseen way.
Paul Blart...?
Yes, exactly like Paul Blart.

I think it comes down to weather you initial action/lack of action was intentional or not. If it was intentional then while i would not call you a hero, i dont think that you could be counted as a villian.

If on the other hand you initial action/lack of action was unintentional then i would count you as a hero.

Neutral you endangered someone and then saved them so everything is fine and no harm is done but there's no real hero to be found.

(Your Heroism) - (Your Villainy) = Neutrality

I can't sound smart. But I'd say you're even in the universe or whatever.

Well, being the misanthrope that I am I'd say it doesn't really matter what you do, you're still the same pile of biological waste walking around with pretentions of grandeur. :)

So, a little, yet rather shocking experience I had today has left me in deep thought. The question, without revealing details too many details of the event, would be:

If you save a life that was, in first instance, forfeited by your action, or lack thereof, are you a "hero" for saving it, or a "villain" for putting it in danger in the first place?

Let me know your thoughts.
Well, I'm confused. Could you give me an explanation on how said person was put in danger? Did I know what would happen and stand by and do nothing or was I just unaware of what would happen and felt guilty upon realization? I mean, if I knew what would happen and did nothing, I'm a villain. If I knew what would happen and did everything in my power to prevent them from coming close to their fate and they insisted on going to it anyways, I'm a hero. If I didn't know what was happening or did not know of the negative consequences, I'm neither. So, then comes the karma equation as explained by this person:

You're a prat for putting them in danger in the first place. Saving them becomes a moral obligation at that point, however accidental the endangerment was to begin with.

Karma = +1 - 1 = 0

Karmic Balance Achieved.

Seriously depends on the details, but most likely neutral. Could be you're not really at fault for endangering the person and you're a hero for saving them, could be you're just saved them to your own ends and endangered them just for the opportunity to save them and then you're an asshole.

I hit someone with a car who goes into respiratory arrest. I use CPR to bring them back. I might have saved their life but I still hit them with my car.

Total grey area.

what i was about to post, ninja'd!
I suppose though that if you did this by accident then karma might smile upon you, if on purpose well i dont know, depends how exact karma is. If it takes into account the amount of pain that persons going through even after you save their life. than you would probably see
-10karma for hitting them, +2 for saving their life
