This is a quote from the 1UP review of the new Medal of Honour game:

I hoped the game would cash in that bold opportunity to bring some gravitas to the situation, and make players examine the controversial post-9/11 war from conflicting perspectives -- or hell, even feel uncomfortable shooting Taliban soldiers. But ... Medal of Honor rarely rises above the "ooh-rah, kill the 'bad guys'" approach seen in most other modern military campaigns.

So my question is, would you like to see more morality introduced into shoot 'um up video games? Think Heavy Rain mixed with Call of Duty and you're about there.

Personally I think it's make for an interesting game. What do you think?

Yes, although I don't think I'd like anything mixed with CoD.

Having said that, back when it was actually known as Call of Duty the series was rather emotionally-engaging, albeit not on a character level.

Well my one rule is "don't be a dick" and as long as the answer is super controversial at time, which tends to be a lot in morality games then yes, a interesting game.
Edit: I wish call of duty would of allowed me to kill my team mates in the airplane level then flash bang my way out :p

While MOH doesn't do all that much to make you think, the tone of the campaign was definitely different than MWs tone.

OT: I don't think a straight FPS game could pull it off. Most people play these games so they can "oo-rah kill the bad guys" and if you're having to look at the 'why' of it all the time, it probably wouldn't go over as well. I could see it working better as a more hybrid type, maybe some RPG elements or something.

Thanks but no thanks,
Shoot 'em ups are made like that for a reason, and they would be completely different (in a bad way, imo) if you had to stop and have a moral debate every time you laid the virtual cross hairs across a virtual face.

I think a really awesome twist in a sci-fi shooter would be that the Evil Invading Aliens that you're fighting against are actually the wronged party. Because that kind of hatred often comes from someone who has been victimized (a lot of the hatred the Middle East hold toward the U.S. and England has to do with us meddling in their political affairs to maintain control in the region). It's still a fight for survival and the aliens need to be defeated, but it would also serve as a warning that sometimes picking on people just because you can might bite you in the ass down the road.

no the beauty of games and FPS's in particular is that the choice would be in most cases reactionary if we had to sit there deciding between save or destroy it would ruin the flow it should be you doing what you think is right, if the game is don properly you won't even know you made a decision.

I love FPS's where you can explore on a certain subject, Bioschock for instance.
I don't mean the morality in killing the little sister or not but the exploration of rapture and it's morality or it's lack of it.

Also, I don't play any of the realistic schooters but I'm sure most people don't play CoD or MoH to get edjucated in morality. So any attempt of putting a controversial stroy in these games will be met with some hostility.

But then you might aswell play Serious Sam
