Ubisoft has just announced that they're adding the dreaded "Always On" DRM to the upcoming "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Warrior" and "Far Cry 3".

I seriously don't know what to say. When will the madness end!?

I honestly don't mind this that much.
My internet is almost always on, so it isn't as if I'm rendered unable to play it. And I have a bunch of other games to play if my net does go out. The DRM causes no problems whatsoever for me, and if it bothers you that much, you can just buy the game and get a crack.

I personally don't care.

I have From Dust on Steam and the DRM causes no problems for me.

I will also be playing Human Revolution as of Thursday, and Skyrim as of November, so Ubisoft games are of no interest to me.

If someone doesn't like it, that's their prerogative. I can understand the principle behind the hatred but can't attribute that to my own experiences with DRM, Ubisoft or otherwise.

Besides, it'll all be cracked after 3 hours ANYWAY. It happened to From Dust. It'll happen to Driver: SF. It'll happen to Diablo 3 and it will continue to happen to others in the future.

I thought it took several months to properly crack Assassin's Creed 2.

Fuck you Ubisoft. Fuck you.

Other people might not care, but I am not going to pay to be treated like a criminal.

The DRM doesn't work, it's cracked, the pirates know how to crack it now, From Dust is featured on torrents, it's a complete and utter failure and to persist with it is an act of such stupidity it's starting to cause me pain to have to re-iterate.

It doesn't work, it will never work, so fucking stop it already.

Fuck you Ubisoft. I will never buy your games as long as they continue to use this DRM. I will not pirate, buy new, or buy used, nothing. As for the games I have, I will not play them anymore. I want NOTHING to do with a company that is so willing to treat ALL customers like criminals just to try and stop a few pirates.

So, again, fuck you Ubisoft, I hope the games with the DRM tank.

It did. But it was cracked, now hackers know how to crack this form of DRM with ease, rendering it completely useless.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
long as they keep it the fuck away from heroes of might and magic 6, we wont have a problem

I actually don't really mind the always online connection thing, if they ask about it, if I have the option to have it always on but never need a disk then I would have it on, I've got a good connection, but when you HAVE to have it period, that's when I say "feck off."

Sooo much butthurt in this post. I mean.... DRM is evil 'n' all, but in the age of direct downloads services such as Steam, I'm pretty sure that fabricating some artificial DRM in a new release is an obsolete process.

The only problem with this is that it vilifies people who ACTUALLY buy their games and does nothing to those who do not. DRM has never been an issue for game crackers to get around and you would be lucky to see a game rip happen more than a week after the initial release of the game.

I'm not exactly sure what developers MO's are in this situation. I feel like they think that this is going to keep people from pirating their games but it generally (read: always) leads to nothing more than an annoyance for crackers and is more hassle than it is worth for honest consumers.

Game companies need to realize that people WILL pirate their media. It is a forgone conclusion as it happens every day with every game. They should put more of their effort into making their games appeal to more people and offer services that make people WANT to buy their game rather than initiate stupid protocols such as this that just annoy their customer base.

Personally, I feel like if they were to offer their games for more variable prices people would be more likely to purchase their items in general. Maybe break the game up into certain sections:

Buy Multiplayer for 20 dollars, Single Player for 20 Dollars, Hard Copy for 10. That way you have the normal price of the game if someone wants all three, but people can cut corners as they choose. A Hard Copy isn't really needed for the majority of people so a digital download would be preferred for a majority if they could save 10 dollars. Some people could care less about single player - same with multiplayer. So you can appeal to those separate classes of people. There are also those on the fence people that might buy the single player and then realize that the game is awesome and splurge to buy the Multiplayer as well.

Just my 16 cents and what I would like the game industry to do. If not, eh fuck them. Their loss.

I don't mind DRM, but thats only when it works. StarCraft II's was okay since alot of the game is multiplayer, so you need a good connection anyway, and it was rarely ever down.

That said, those who use DRM and don't put in the effort to make it any good, can kindly eat a Baneling.

I'm not sure it being obsolete will stop them. They seem to hold to a lot of obsolete notions.
