Well to be fair, an FPS is a point and click adventure game. Only with more of the former, and less of the latter.

I do enjoy a well done FPS every now and again. Typically something that doesn't fall into the vastly cliche tropes. Space Marines, WWII games...

...

...

Why isn't there a game about Space Marines in World War II?
Well thought, but by my logic, if it wouldn't be vastly different, it wouldn't be a seperate genre.

You are banned from the internet.

That aside, you aren't a old school gamer.

and FPS' are not exempt from the game rule.

"For every 100 there will only be one that is any good.

First person shooters are getting a bit bland but there are still gems in the genre. Also, Your not old school just because you've been gaming since 2002. I've been gaming since 1997, most of my life, and I don't consider myself old school!

Eep. Watch your spelling and grammar. And think before posting. But I agree.
I guess you should play the Metroid prime games.

I got into gaming at the age of two, in 1996, The year the N64 was created. 2002 isn't old school, and I don't even consider 90's era to be "Retro" yet either.

tell us something we don't know? its the reason why FPS's are my 2nd favourite genre (RTS being 1st), yet I own very few FPS games - I like to diversify, makes the experience more varied.

I consider old school to be pre 1990. Also there are so many new amazing FPS's which are out anf they are not all the same e.g Team Fortress 2 and Call Of Duty 4.
I dunno... I'd say around 1995 to mark the latest of old school... I'd call pre 1990's games to be "classic" and old school to be more of before the last generation of people.

Team Fortress 2 is incredibly original and different. You should try it.
I know I plan to one day, even though I'm certain I'll be terrible at it.
Everyone is at first. I don't think I got a single kill until my tenth match.

Anyway, yeah, there's a little chaff, just like in every other genre. You just have to be on the lookout for the wheat, your HL2s, your Bioshocks, your Metroid Primes, your Republic Commandos, your TF2s, etc.

They're all for the hardcore crowd. I mean, do you seriously expect them to play a game with any- God forbid!- strategy involved?

game companies are spending more time on multiplayer than THE ACUAL GAME when games like Half-Life 2 and Portal showed us that if you just work on the acual game product that they will be bob loblaw blibbidy blab blob blah
multiplayer IS an actual game... you actually play it with a real controller and you (honest to god) interact with other entities that happen to be controlled by other human beings

nevermind that HL2 was packaged with CS:S and Portal was packaged with TF2, cus those multiplayer thingamabobs certainly didn't contribute to their success at all...

BUT you have a point: i'd rather see better single player games than crappy multiplayer games. although my first preference would be more, better multiplayer games. by better i mean innovative, well honed, and competitive

He said he got into gaming around 2002, so don't make the excuse that he likes half life because hes old school.

I sucked at it too at first, but I had so much fun looking at the characters and death animations that it didn't matter. It's a pity they don't amuse me as much anymore.

I think there should be more games with either JUST multiplayer or JUST single-player - so that the developer can spend their time making the game so completely badass it blows your skull off, instead of two mediocre modes. The only example of a game I have played that balances that well (it's not badass, just fun) was Halo 3, which is pretty much a staple of friendly parties, and if you look back in hindsight, the campaign is ridiculously fun. I've been playing COD4, 5, TF2, and Bioshock for a very long time, so I'm a bit rusty, and it's still as fun as it was when I first got it.

And before you start spouting your vehement statements: There are TONS of games I have not had the pleasure to play. I am a "new" gamer. PC at 1999, 360 when it came out.

Back on topic now: I despise people who rape and murder the English language unless they have a damn good reason behind it.
Ha! Got me there. Gave me a good laugh.

Play the new bionic commando... I really, really enjoyed it, amongst the fact that I feel the same as you sometimes.
