I laughed quite heartily at the assertion that "most online strangers are adults pretending to be kids"

the truth is, it's probably the opposite.

and with the millions of people gaming on XBL, the number of actual predators probably accounts for less then half of a half of a percent.

those predators, as wrong as they were for soliciting minors (at least if they knew they were minors, they're stupid if they didn't know), probably weren't pretending to be kids to get access to said minors.

And as for "romantic devil", "wanna see my dick?" doesn't make someone a predator.. it makes them a moronic pervert perhaps, but that doesn't make them an evil person. They may have been a 14 year old kid that doesn't know how to properly manage his raging hormones.

Parents should be diligent with their kids, but they really really need to not worry about strangers. A kids uncle is millions of times more likely to molest them then some stranger they meet on XBL.
And that's the last time I see my uncle.

It's not adults posing as kids, It's adults acting like kids, and kids acting like morons. Difference. You're not going to invite someone you don't know to your house, and if you do, you're a freaking moron. And you're parents/guardian/school hasn't been teaching you well enough. She couldn't just ignore him? It's not like she's ever planning to meet up with these people.

And as Altorin has said, It's most likely to happen from some one close to you or the family, or the family itself.

Crazy thought here, I dunno, BLOCK the people who say these things?
Notice that the harassed girl never mentioned that she blocked communications, which is the main, unassailable defense against such things. If she didn't want to keep receiving messages, she could, I dunno, hit the "Block Communications" option whenever she would open this guy's messages.

As for the helicopter mom, good for her. The kid's 13 and playing M-rated games, but she's actively involved. This probably also keeps the kid from screeching over the mic. :p

really, why is he playing Halo, ratings are there for a reason. And I like how these kids appear to be saints on the video when they are probably the worst to play against.

This Fox BS is about sexual predators on xbox live-so why the hell do they show fps in the background? Is Modern Warfare the IN place to pick up or molest little girls? I bet each stalker/predator would have better chances in some kind of barbie/hannah montana game than in an fps?

I understand people upset about the theory that video games cause violence, don't agree with it but recognize it as a valid scapegoat. It disturbs me when they get upset over Xbox Live sexual(or lack thereof) relations. The internet is breeding ground for predators and elitist assholes but that's another topic. They whine about Sexbox Live when no less than a year ago a young kid was hung in a park about 5 minutes, walking. I live in a town of around 500 pop. Murder is not common. Super investigative police or something went through his internet shit and found out he was talking to a young boy online who, believe it or not, wasn't a young boy. If anything, Xbox Live/PSN is the safest place on the internet. People don't play to rape(Physically) kids, they play to kick some major ass or whine trying.

It's FOX. What did you expect?
Perverts are, perverts have allways been. They are just easier to spot these days.

*points at Marquie de Sade* 'nuff said.

OT: Oh jeeze. Shut up. This has been a problem since the dawn of the internet. We know. Really, the whole fucking world knows. There are bad people on the internet. Stop making video games look like the worst thing to ever happen.

Funny thing from a European perspective: It took me a while to figure out that this was not, in fact, The Onion News Network. From the content, I could not have guessed.

I loved it. It's classic Fox.

"...are paired up with cyberspace strangers."

Obviously these strangers plan to locate and kidnap your precious children.

Yes, they would rather do that, according to fox, instead of, you know, actually playing the game that they want to enjoy.

Not every single random person is going to be a raging pervert/sex offender.
Most just want to play the game (or grief..).

I love how the narrator really stressed the word 'strangers'.

Oh man, I can't tell you how many times I've been just playing a game online and then BAM! Sexual offenders trying to get my address. It happens almost daily. Especially when the guys with the deep and scratchy voices tell me that they're 13 and just want to chat.

You know what would be nice? If one of them actually played on Xbox Live. It would be nice if someone from FOX did research. It would be nice if they didn't just recycle the same false news stories full of blatant lies and misinformation.

Yeah, I read the text version of this, I mean for gods sake what kind of a girl doesn't expect to get molested when playing XBL, Halo no less! Its XBL, Its populated by lonely social rejects, and angsty 13-year-olds with no social skills and me I'm not insulting the X-box in this post I have one.

Oh here they go again "Here listen to A MERE TWO instansces of pedaphilia on XBL, this stuff ALWAYS happens right?"

Why hasn't somebody stormed Fox News Studios and forcibly taken them off the air yet.
