I think you shouldn't put all officials on one plane. Was it a crash or an attack? If it was a crash, then it's some really bad luck. So Poland has no head of state now? Or an emergency head of state, I presume.

A government just died in a plane crash.
I don't believe that's happened before.

They lost their president, plus his wife and a sizeable amount of the parliament! That's pretty intense. How they'll reshuffle their parliament now I don't know, they'll obviously work it out somehow.

The "pilot error" explanation seems logical enough to me.

Quite tragical. It's pretty safe to assume that Poland is fucked.

Also, who is stupid enough to put half the Polish government in the same plane?

So many lives lost. Such a shame.

If it had not have been a polish plane there would have been absoloute murder over this. Still I dont know how long it will take the polish government to get back on its feet. With the Army's leaders and senates leaders killed too

But honestly, this is truly a disaster. Poland is probably going to suffer from this, until they reform the government with appropriate people. Personally I would never have that many important people fly in the same plane just because I'm scared of a total party wipe out happening. Hope other countries lend their support.

I heard about this on NPR this morning. So much bad news to start the day with, I hate to hear it. My heart goes out to the Polish people. Best of luck to you all.

That's amazing, and a sad, crippling blow to Poland. A day of deep mourning is in store. My prayers to those left behind.

Poland is going to be an extremely volatile country now. There's a massive power vacuum just been created, what with the President and half the government dead, and there's going to be so many different people vying to fill those spots. Whoever does win will also need the backing of the UN, the UK, Russian and US governments, and possibly the EU as well. So it becomes an international diplomatic incident too.

Quite simply, expect a hell of a lot of trouble in the near future from Poland. As for me, I just heard about this on the radio in the car, on the way to the bookies. I heard that 96 people were killed including the president and his wife, but it said nothing about the rest of the government. So this is actually a bit of a shock to me now.

I posted this already on the politics section.

Anyway, it's quite tragic, but it's most likely an accident.

We didn't lost our whole government. "Just" The President, First Lady, Chief of Staff, Chiefs of all branches of army, chief of National Bank, few high religious officials. Many important delegates from PiS (Prawo i Sprawieldiwoś [Law and Order] - opposing faction in our Parliament)
He was one of the worst presidents but still it's a tragedy.

I'm pretty sure the Russian goverment did that whith purpose (I have nothing against Russians it was my father that convinced me they did and he knew some good reasons but that would end like 2 A4 papers so I'm not writing any reasons)

Hmm. The same Russia that kept Poland under its boot for several decades?

In all seriousness its a shame, but why would you put the entire government on a single plane? Maybe its my paranoia or fear of heights speaking, but I'd have split them up in case of something like this.
Heh, thats funny
But that is a valid question why they put all the important guy in one place, A place several thousand feet above the ground.

Damn, thats awful, need to see how my polish friends are copying :(. Not primarily because the president and the oficials died, I would feel as if they were just 80 John/Jane Does, as any lost human life is a huge loss, a terrible tragedy to their beloved ones that will find a hard time to outcome a something they were not expecting.

But then again with both president and government officials in the plane and with the crash occuring in a foreign country that can, as was said already, bring the worst of many citizens supporting the oposing faction/factions and cant put their diferences aside in a momentt of grieving as it can also settle a base for conspiracy theories and political disconfort that knowing how the media circus works can quickly eclipse the tragedy itself.

Let us have a minute of silence in memory of the victims.
