Morrowind Quest Trouble. (Spoilers?)

The quest I'm having issues with is "The Death of Ralen Hlaalo"

I found out Nine-Tails was framed, then broke into the Manor and got answers from the servent. I went outside and found out the NPC's Name is Thanelen Velas. In addition to where he is. So I went back to Nileno Dorvayn. And attempted to inform them to whom I thought it was. But the name didn't show up. She informed me I should kill whom I thought it was. So I went to the council club and found him. After a quick conversation he denied it but I was sure it was him. Figuring that I would get away with it I attacked. However the people in the bottom part of the bar came up and killed me. After a few tries I manged to kill him without alerting them. But the crime was still reported so I got through the city back to Nileno Dorvayn. And she didn't want to speak with me. No one in the house did... So I loaded up the last save. I don't understand how I am supposed to kill him without making them angry or alerting the guards... So I went to the wiki and it didn't help either.

What am I supposed to do?

Get a frenzy humanoid spell, or taunt him into attacking you. You could also bundle this quest with Larrius Varro's Bloodbath quest. Try pickpocketing Thanelen to provoke him. You'll probably get caught, but that's the point. He attacks, making you're response "self-defense."

I don't think it's necessary to warn us about spoilers in a game that is about to see a second sequel.

Yeah, I had trouble in this quest, too. My problem was that I kept dying, but I think there are more people to kill on the roof. I just killed the entire gang.
