I always thought it would be an easy thing to rectify all the slashing and stabbing before the Story Garbage that retconned everything.Silentpony said:At least they're embracing the absurdist camp of the series. Dudes getting stabbed through the brain, twice, and shrugging it off. Round 2 now being an official in-canon thing as opposed to just a game mechanic.
don't get me wrong, Mortal Kombat is still the video game equivalent of the Mortal Kombat movies, but they're learning not to take themselves seriously.
Also that soundtrack was both the absolute worst and best choice imaginable.
I don't think they ever took themselves all that seriously. Like, have you seen the characters they have in this franchise? One of them is a ninja cowboy.Silentpony said:At least they're embracing the absurdist camp of the series. Dudes getting stabbed through the brain, twice, and shrugging it off. The final scene is a woman with a giant hourglass. I think some time-shenanigans is at play. It was fine in MK2011, but honestly, I worry it will hurt the plot.Silentpony said:At least they're embracing the absurdist camp of the series. I was under the impression each MK game was its own separate universe as it were. Like they all have their own in-game plots, but they're not sequels or prequels to each other. Like MK7 doesn't reference events from MK2 or wonder how Sonya is still alive despite dying 8776 times in MK 6.Saelune said:The final scene is a woman with a giant hourglass. What? No, absolutely not! The plot of MK is one of the reasons I love the series so much! Every game from 1 to now is canon, well, except MK vs DCU, despite people counting it as MK8 and why MK11 is actually the 10th game in the main series...Silentpony said:I was under the impression each MK game was its own separate universe as it were. What I'm saying is I'm not sure there is a plot to hurt
Okay so how does that work? MK campaigns allow for fatalities, so how do we square multiple Scorpions/Smokes/Jax/Johnny/Etc/Etc appearing again and again in games? Or did I miss something and Sub Zero has been in only 3 of the 11 mortal kombat games?Saelune said:What? No, absolutely not! The plot of MK is one of the reasons I love the series so much! Noob Saibot alone is example of the plot, since he is the original Sub-Zero who died, with later Sub-Zero being the younger brother. Mk7 (Armaggeddon) references 2 a ton, just by having Shao Kahn in it. Remember, Shao Kahn wasnt introduced until MK2, in 1 Shang Tsung was the final boss.
Also Sonya wasnt in MK6 (Deception).
...If its not clear, Mortal Kombat is my favorite fighting game series.
So like, you know Mario dies sometimes, but then he respawns at the start of the level? Or Sonic, or Link, or Nathan Drake or whoever? While some games like Bioshock or Dark Souls may account for in-lore respawns, most games don't. We just acknowledge that these are video games and move on.Silentpony said:Okay so how does that work? Like how do we have Jade 'kills' Rain, only to have Rain show up again 4 games later and he and Jade are like 'Hey, remember when I ripped your spine out and kicked your head so hard it exploded? Good times..."
I mean is the plot really that every character gets one fatality, and then they never ever appear in the story ever again, ever, ever?
I imagine it's because the Switch is a handheld, and is in it's own league in terms of power. If someone with plenty of money wants to play MK11 on the go, they will want to have it on a Switch.Yoshi178 said:but i'm pleasantly shocked and surprised to see that Mortal Kombat 11 is also coming to the Switch, not just the PS4 & Xbox One like i assumed.
