I think it's great and deserves the praise it gets. The only problem I see is many people automatically dismiss it for Street Fighter or Tekken quickly without giving it a fair chance. I have not played it to a high level of competition yet so I don't know how it holds up but I have more fun with it over Marvel vs. Capcom 3 personally. Mortal Kombat is packed with a ton of content and I think the story mode and the endings are very satisfying.

after playing the demo i can say that the fighting style seems alot more fluid and everything seems more fine tuned. Haven't played the full game yet but i'm pumped

I had the original on the SNES. The next 2 on the SNES, and Armagedon on the PS2. I liked it when it wasn't trying to be anything more than a gorey over-the-top button-masher. It's still trying to do the same thing, but not as well. Meh, I always have an old copy of MK-II, and I'll always have fond memories of impaling someone onto a giant rock.

Pros: Its got a TON of content, easily the most of any fighter on the market today. Its got a good variety of characters, a fun setting, secrets, a really meaty story mode, and plenty of that good old fashioned violence. Online runs pretty well (though it takes me a bit to get into matches for whatever reason).

Cons: Its still Mortal Kombat, take that as you will. Its not the most balanced fighter in the world, and the system still feels somewhat stilted and restrictive compared to Street Fighter (though, to their credit, its MUCH better than previous entries). Also, even though there is a lot of variety in the characters, most of them unfortunately play very similarly to each other on a base level. If you are used to more fluid or fast-paced fighters, you may be somewhat put off by the more restrictive combo system.

Overall, I think the game rates a solid 8. As a fighter, I still can't take it seriously compared to the big boys like Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, or Virtua Fighter. However, as a game, its fantastic. So much style, and a surprising amount of substance to back it up. I highly recommend it if you enjoy 2D fighters.

As sweet as it looks I just can't bring myself to pay that much for a fighting game anymore. By the time the price comes down no one will be playing it on-line or they'll be so good at it there's no point for me to play it.
So like pretty much every fighting game anymore. I'll have to pass.

THE STORY FINALLY MAKES SENSE!!

Well... except for Cyrax and Sektor having those names even as humans. Unless they do have "human" names and just refer to call each other as their codenames out of force of habit.

The gameplay seems like a weird mix of the 3D games plus the the combo mechanics of UMK3/MKT. All in all it's pretty fun (although the 2v1 story fights are hugely unfair).

Well, if you take Smoke into consideration, that makes sense.

Story Mode is really all I've had time to play so far. It's been fun... right up until you're put in control of a fresh character you never played in the older games, and expected to beat two opponents tag-teaming you.

Goddamn 1v2 battles can piss right off.

Ah, but it's revealed in-game what Smoke's real name is (and that he's European to boot), in addition to both Sub-Zeros (or rather Sub-Zero and Tundra) and even Scorpion, although his real name has been revealed since MK2 (I think).

It's a superficial gripe, but I do think it's a little awkward for Cyrax and Sektor to refer to each other with such obvious "robot" names when they're still human.

The only thing I dislike about it are the fucking 1v2 battles they just piss me off especially when you think you might win then they start doing loads of tag combo's.

Oh and that I have to wait to unlock Quan Chi to play as him :(

Yeah... 1v2 battles are rage makers. So is Goro... and of course the king of all bitches.... Shao Kahn...

I HATE THAT FUCKING HAMMER THROW AND SHOULDER CHARGE. AHHHH!!!!

Otherwise it is very fun. Except the Toasty fatality for Scorpion doesn't work on PS3... :(

Ahh well, Quan Chi rules and it still has this...

Best Fatality.... Ever. (imho)
