Most amount of sheer, unstoppable, replayable fun in a single player game

Red faction Guerilla, I can't believe I progress by ramming a truck into a base covered in military units strapping C-4 everywhere then blowing it straight to hell, only to steal a car and blow up their neighbor's nuclear plant. Pure win.

I think I invested a crapload of time into one of the pokemon games a long time back.

A more recent one would either be Minecraft or ArmA2. Say what you want about ArmA2, but how many games allows you to spawn a crapload of AI and make them duke it in an open area with all types of vehicles and weapons?

I think if I went by the numbers then Ace Combat 4 or Rome Total War would win out. However, Mass Effect 1 and 2 are both up there too.

hmmmm... I'd have to say Deadspace or Fallout 3, with a splash of Resistance: Fall of Man. (and a hint of Resistance 2)

Dead Space was great, for just the sheer tension of your first run-through, then the stress relieving goodness of having maxed out guns to chop up Necromorphs with

Fallout 3: Do I really have to give reasons? Options man, options! That, and cmon, shooting someone in the foot and watching them gib is, well, hilarious.

Resistance and Resistance 2 were great for some rather unique guns, a really cool story, and bloody hard-to-kill enemies (until you learn how to kill em better XD)

But, well, that's my opinion, seeing as I only have a PS3 and PC to talk with. There's several Xbox games I think were fun too, but, well... They were played in co-op, not single player.

Minecraft, definitely. Multiplayer is fun and everything, but you can always go into your own little world and fend off creepers. And then look up from your computer and realize it's six in the morning.

JC2, Minecraft, roguelikes (Dwarf Fortress in particular) and Monster Rancher (only 1 and 2), you get a fair bit of replay value.

For actual number of playthroughs, though? Sacrifice, without a doubt.

I've long had an interest in military tactics and strategy, so generally just any sort of battle of wits against my opponent in an RTS. Since this is single player we're talking about, I'd have to give special consideration to some of the battles in the Dawn of War series, specifically in Soulstorm during the battle against the Eldar Stronghold. Basically, you're fighting on a map that has a hilly area on one side (where an Ork rebel base is), a plateau on the other side of the map (home to a Chaos splinter cell), and a final plateau where the Eldar are based, that has very limited access points right by the Ork base. I once spent a lovely few hours as the Imperial Guard trying to completely rout the CPU player during that mission, and it took a lot of changing my plans on the fly and having to pay attention to all aspects of my strategy to be able to win. To be fair I was playing it on a higher difficulty level, but even so. I really enjoy the more cerebral sort of fun you get with games like that...

I'd recommend portal just because of all of the laughing you'll do at the lines. Besides thatm there's also SR2, Just Cause 2, Beautiful Katamari, and last but not least, GTA Vice City.

UFO Enemy Unknown (X-Com) No doubt. This is the game that taught me that losing is fun.

Civ, umm any of them, I mean choose your poison. I love V, but it was II that first ruined my life.

Jagged Alliance 2, X-Com with personality.

Silent Storm, Jagged Alliance without personality, but with fully destructible terain and ragdoll physics.

Recently Just Cause 2. Just Cause 2 could only have been better if they had made it in the Frostbite engine, I love Bad Company 2 but it is a better multi than single because the campaign is pretty naff.

Good call on Blood Money.

EDIT: Shit I forgot Pirates! I must have played that for at least a year of actual real time.

Starfox 64, Fallout 3, and dead space. And I know story is not supposed to matter here, but idk why but i enjoy halo reach just to get the feeling of hopelessness that it always gives you when your fighting, especially at the very end where all you can hope to do is kick as much ass as possible.

I can spend hours jumping off choice cliffs in Red Dead Redemption.

The free-running in Assassin's Creed 2 never gets old.

For some odd reason, I never get bored of the age-old Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I know most of the levels by heart, and take a bit of pleasure in finding unusual ways of beating them.

Multiplayer is overrated, its just there to make up for what single player options lack.
I really really want to punch you in the face for that, but then all my best gaming experiences involved friends, from Kirby Super Star to Team Fortress 2.

For me it would have to be either Victoria, or Galactic Civilizations. Every other game I've only really played the single player once. Or at best maybe twice to unlock other options I had missed.

I was going to say Power Stone 2, but that was almost always multiplayer for me... same with Smash Brothers...

Mercenaries 2: Best fun just calling in random airstrikes on residential areas, and watching all the people burn....THEY MUST ALL BURNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I have regained control of my sanity now.
