I was playing RE4 today after 3 years of not touching the game and I was getting destroyed by the giant dudes with mini guns and I kept getting killed by just one stray bullet with full health and frustration in sued, thus the inspiration for this top. What death (in any game)has been your most gruesome or just plain out fucking annoying?

Basically any of the deaths in Dead Space. But I was able to appreciate them because they gave an extra motivation to not die, other than being set back 5 minutes. Particularly gruesome ones included the crazy doctor's annoying regenerating pet who carefully cut off all your arms and legs after skewering you, and the final boss' picking his teeth with your arms and legs. I was also freaked out by SPOILER ALERT: Lawrence Fishburne's death to the giant rhinoceros, complete with parts of his body getting splattered across the other side of the barrier as he screams and claws at the blood smeared glass in vain.

Also from dead space, the part where you have to go on the outside of the ship inside the micrometeorite field! Fuck, it took me ages to figure out how to do that, and every time I'd just see my character get pelted apart by marbles.

Gruesome? Probably dead space where the creature rips your head off and stuffs itself down your neckhole.

Annoying? Viewtiful Joe has ruined boss battles for me, because of that motherf*cking shark. It would have a one hit kill move where he bites you and just swings you around in his mouth for like 5 minuets. Its not really a one hit kill, but with full health, it will get you down to the next attack will kill you. And their is NO defense again this, if you run from him, he just chases you forever. I never beat him, but apparently the only way to beat him is a relentless attack the second the fight starts.

*SPOILERS* At the end of Red Dead Redemption, you die a slow unavoidable death. You are shot by a bunh of guys and slowly bleed to death. This was so painful to watch because I got so attached to the main character... I really should stop doing that, I had the same feeling in CoD 4 when Captain Price almost died.

Gruesome? Most deaths from Manhunt. Why Manhunt struck me so much is that the deaths seem real not just over the top. When you suffocate someone with a bag then stab at his jugular with a shard of glass he squirms and fights tooth and nail for dear life as you see it slowly drain from him. It's the only video game that I've ever felt bad about killing someone.

Annoying? Fucking Dante's Inferno. That game has WAY too much platforming with camera angles that simply aren't suited to make the jumps well.

I swear 99% of my deaths have been from falling in a god damn hole trying to jump to some fucking experience shrine up on a ledge or other bullshit. This game is really pissing me off.

Tychus' death in StarCraft II was very annoying, considering it pretty much came out of left field with only a bit of foreshadowing.

On my first playthrough at least, a lot of Ace Combat 5. The Arkbird with its laser, the system core and its inability to be targeted by the long range surface-to-surface missiles, and the SOLG and the damn panels that blend in and fly off.

Safer Sephiroth, one more KoTR would have taken him out, then he casts supernova. Ah happy memories

In Just Cause 2 my jet got rammed by a chopper and I smashed into a mountain, my jet exploded, and I drowned in the ocean.

The Valley of Defilement in Demon's Souls made me want to scream with hatred the first time through.

I just want to hear the design decision for this.

Guy1: "So I was thinking this area would be kind of like a swamp"
Guy2: "What's the hook of this level?"
Guy1: "Well I figured the water should slow the player down, you know like they're treading through water kind of."
Guy2: "Great idea! HEY! Let's also make it poision!"
Guy1: "Totally!"
Guy2: "Also, don't allow them to roll or dodge!"
Guy1: "This is going to be the best level ever!"
