Well I think I'd have to vote some of these super idealistic hero-kids from JRPGs. The poster child probably being "Rush" from Last Remnant. Having to say OMG, it's so bad, but I'm going to try anyway! Every other fight it seems, and having the brains of a bloody toothpick.
I mean okay, okay, I get the point, but do you REALLY need to make some of these statements about the power of friendship and your uncrushable heroic spirit every 5 bloody seconds? I mean a good story/hero could convey those messages through actions without piping up about it constantly.
The point is that there are plenty of annoying characters out there, but that whole stereotype gets to me after a while. It's gotten to the point where I actually find the reverse stereotype (the brooding emo "Kaim" type... Lost Odyssey referance) substantially less annoying.
I can deal with perky, and even repetitive (the usual complaints it seems), but when it goes to the overdone ridiculous extreme, it's an experience similar to what I'd imagine pouring hydrochloric into your eyeballs would be like.
