Ever experienced the feeling when a game is slightly ruined by the fact that you want to put a pitchfork through the protagonist's character skull for whatever reason (Please elaborate)?

I spent much of GTA San Andreas having the opinion that CJ should just shut the hell up and let everyone else talk. He does get called on it, and rightly so, several times but never really seems to learn. I spent the whole game waiting for the moment when I'd get to start flying, and as soon as he's told it's time to learn to fly: "No I ain't". Ugh. Just wanna slap the bastard.

Also, Alex Mercer should calm down a bit, and stop with the random repeated statements of the perfectly obvious.

Please ignore this post.

Edit: Okay, I got it.

Sonic the Hedgehog from Sonic 06...I really shouldn't have to say more, should I?

Here's a video:

Let's see, protagonists that I don't like would probably include Cole Phelps, I thought that throughout the war he would get to be a better leader, but it never happened. He was a horrid leader of men throughout the whole story.
Though strangely enough the fact that I don't like him for that is reason enough for me to like him. He has a character flaw that doesn't get overcome by the end of the game, and that seemed endearing to me for some reason.
I guess I'm just not very good at hating anything anymore...

Dr. McD said:
I would say Nathan Drake for sheer annoying smugness, but there are FAR WORSE CHARACTERS.

For the runner up, everyone in FF13 except Sazh.

First prise however goes to Connor Morgan of Homefront, I genuinely wanted to start a war with North Korea and kill every fucking westerner in existence after playing that game because of him. That fuck came off as being more like the North Koreans than the NK themselves, and I doubt that if any country rule by him would be any better than North Korea, if there's a single scene that captures why I hate the fucker so much, it's when he told a starving kid to piss off and then freaked out over finding the NK using mass graves.

Then there's his stupid decisions, read this comic and you'll see what I mean: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comics/critical-miss/8755-Critical-Miss-Connor-Morgan

Captcha: toitiere chaser

What the fuck is a "toitiere"?! And why do you assume I chase them?!
I'm going with this, as well, because the moment I read his name, I literally began to fucking shiver. Most of the characters in that game were pretty shitty but Connor was the king of shit! Seriously, who thought this character was a good idea? I bet the voice actor hates this character!

The Dynasty Warriors games are incredibly cathartic, what with the mowing down of hundreds of mooks with every attack, but the characters are so incredibly shallow, grating, annoying, and idiotic; that I want to cut my ears off and shove the bleeding pieces of flesh down the characters' throats in an effort to smother them. I know the historical figures they represent were so very much more clever and brilliant, why don't the developers?

Jet from Fracture. He doesn't really have a personality, just blank agreements to whatever his CO says.

Cloud from FF7 (I know, blasphemy...)

I couldn't play past the intro to the game because of his 'too cool for the room' self-centered depression. I read every line of his speech as,"The world's going to blow up, but I'm only in it for MEEEE..." in a dull winding monotone.

characters that can lift insanely huge objects like styrafoam but have no explanation why.

Bad examples
Cloud
any character from monster hunter
any jrpg character

Good examples
(bad reference) Roronoa Zoro

also characters that get stronger by gear with no explanation like the monster hunter series.
so putting on the heavy husk of a dead dino makes me stronger????

Currently, I really annoyed with Cole from InFamous because he's still letting his ex girlfriend--who chose to believe some masked stranger on a T.V. over her own love--boss him around and be a jerk to him, even though they broke up. So many times now I've wanted him to say, "I'll help, but it's because I want to help the people. YOU can just leave me the hell alone."

Cloud and Squall from Final Fantasy 7 and 8 could be annoying at times. And I've only played like one hour of Just Cause 2, but I kind of hate that guy for some reason. What's his name? Ricardo or something?

Sadwick (I think that's his name) from "The Whispered World" has a terribly annoying voice. Everyone said that you get used to it, and they were right, but using that voice seemed like a terrible decision. It was a hurdle to overcome, and if not for the amazing art could've made me give up on the game. I haven't actually bought it yet, just played the demo, and it kept crashing on my computer. I'm using a different one for gaming now, so maybe it will go better.

Also, April Ryan from "The Longest Journey" is great a lot of the time, but her reluctance to accept magic, her destiny, and her teenagerish attitude is kind of annoying at times. Not the reluctance exclusively, because that's entirely understandable, but there are times when she seems to have accepted it already after seeing clear evidence of what is going on, but then suddenly reverts back to being unwilling with an attitude. I found it a bit jarring.

Squall, Squall, Squall, a thousand times Squall. He was just a total douche throughout the entire game.

I guess Ezio at times, but never all the time.

Whatever the protagonist name was from Prince of Persia for the PS3.

Right at the end "Oh, let's just undo EVERYTHING I'VE DONE FOR THE PAST 10 HOURS JUST TO SAVE SOME ***** WHO DOESN'T EVEN LOVE ME BACK."

Don't know if this counts, but...

My character in Guildwars, (I don't play anymore, because I've matured, and reailsed that the game is crap.) Mot The God. I played warrior, and have played GW right from the start (5ish years), and saved up all my in game pennies to buy a set of super cool armour; one of the most expensive in the game, then proceed to dye it black (the most expensive dye in the game), then runed it fully with expensive runes. Anyway, a few months after I'd finally saved up enough money and bought my armour for the extortionate price that it was, Anet decided to do a complete armour re-haul and made the armour that I bought a few months back THE CHEAPEST GODDAMN ARMOUR FOR WARRIORS, so all the noobs (I know, I know...) were running around in pretty much exactly what I was wearing, except they got it for cheaper.

I dunno, it just really pissed me off.

Actually, talking about Guildwars kinda makes me want to play it again.. Anyone else feeling like this, message me on here xD

Peace and Brains :)
