Well, all characters that are in your party in each FF game, from FF7 to now... save Aurun (or however you spell it) from FFX.

I liked Homefronts MP, but the SP was horrid, as mentioned in the second post.

Almost all silent protagonists (there are some exception... Link and Freeman do not get this exception).

A good deal of the Gears cast, save Baird and Cole (Dom included after Gears 2).

Altier and Desmond sucked in comparison to Ezio (the former is my opinion, the latter is fact).

Thats all for now...

ehhh this is a small thing (because it's all i can think of...) but:
Final fantasy tactics Ramaza's 3rd chapter armor...it's Blue...ok that's fine...with a white buttplate...thing that sticks out and you WILL notice it...

still love the game though

EDIT: and for an actual post
Homefront! the only thing they tell you about him is that you are a USMC pilot...that's about it....or am i missing something? And what the guy in the second post said...i agree

I love how many of these are FF protagonists.

I could deal with Cloud, with Squall, even with Tidus. But then along came XII, and with it came the biggest weenie I'll let myself play in the fictional realm, Vaan. What was worse was that Balthier was always thrown around as a much cooler, much more interesting character whose life I actually cared about, rather than an annoying child who was too bloody big for his boots. GAH.

Other than that, nice-ish game.

Hope from FFXII. For someone who can take down big bosses with a boomerang he is such a brat and self loathing. Not to mention how he got sucked into a of that stuff. He just ran after a random girl who i think was hit in the head during the purge.

I didn't have such a problem with it, though it's understandable. I personally like the idea having the cool interesting character around but not making him the main character; focus on someone more down to Earth but keep the cool interesting one around without wearing the cool and interesting out. Something like that.

It reminds me of Haruhi, or Jack Sparrow, or... V for Vendetta. I'm sure there's more. Kyon and Will Turner and whoever the V person was, unfortunately, I haven't seen that movie or read that comic yet, were more likable though, but I think it's a similar idea.

I personally didn't find Vaan *too* annoying, but I can understand it. The "I am Captain Basch" yelling part was particularly bizarre.

See I liked it in X because with Auron, he appeared as a mentor and a foster-father figure for Tidus. But then they tried the exact same thing, and for some reason it just didn't work. It was just that nothing really tied me to Vaan as a protagonist. He was just young and green, nothing brilliant.
Sure FF has just been making slowly more effeminate protagonists until eventually it's turned to manly women. =P

The protagonist from Tales of the Abyss at the beginning of the game. Thankfully, he got much better after a certain point in the game.

Commander shepard. Fuck you and your plot armour.
The entire squad in BFBC2. I just ated them all, SP was terrible.
Evryone in gears was just unlikable.
I couldn't agree more with you on the BC2 front. I hated them soooo much. They're so stupid, pandering and annoying, and not any of them are relatable or likeable. And their smugness in being in a Call of Duty knock-off (Though it did improve on some mechanics, don't get me wrong) and MOCKING Call of Duty was just Meta-suck.
Plus, who wasn't expecting the double cross, seriously.

Kayleth from the eldar campaign of Dawn of War 2: Retribution, she's completely incapable of doing anything remotely useful and is a complete arrogant ***** to everyone else including the other eldar protagonists

Ever experienced the feeling when a game is slightly ruined by the fact that you want to put a pitchfork through the protagonist's character skull for whatever reason (Please elaborate)?

Commence discussion fellow Escapists!
not so much a complaint about the protagonist...

Ive just started playing Red faction Gurrela, and Mason...I cant say anything bad about him..so far, hes just your standard brown haird white male game protagonist nice guy..kinda bland but not exactally hateable

but the thing Ive been thinking about was...this game kind of reminds me of saints row 2 in terms of gameplay (same developer) so I thourght it could totally work if they gave you the option of playing as a female, just another VA and a model and well...mabye and now Im playing the game wishing I could play as a chick

Estelle from Tales of Vesperia. Make up your mind, for god's sake! Are you going to stay our party and shut up about your powers or bugger off back to the castle and annoy everyone else. No, most female protagonists in Tales games are whiny ass, weak willed girls who moan about their powers all the time. Bad writing, very bad writing.

I go around and I see people talking about Tidus. Talking about how annoying he is. They're talking about Bayonetta and Nathan Drake. But do you all know what the worst protagonist of a game is? Have you ever sat down to play a fun, kooky game only to find yourself in a shit pile thanks to your protagonist? ...Well all your choices are good (especially Tidus), but I know someone who's WORSE.

Meet the protagonist to Star Ocean: The Last Hope. The guys goes from "I'm young and full of energy and kinda pervy haha!" to Shinji Ikari halfway through, and his whiny, angsty, melodramatic and depressing attitude not only affects the pace of the plot, but the other characters as well, thus sucking all the fun out of the game in one swoop.
Best part: HE DESERVES TO FEEL THIS WAY
Fucking moron is in a base with Nazi-like folk in the 50's (time portal idiocy) and is asked by their leader, who's been sly in a hammy sort of way, to ask him for help in advancing their tech to better mankind. Well, fuck you, Captain Picard! The prime directive can suck a dick! We have people to "help"!
His friends tell him it's a trap, but he ignores it and tries to "do good for mankind's future". Then the ***** nazi-like leader turns on him and seperate him from his love interest, then stripping her naked for some reason (uh...) and then there's some fucking huge explosion thanks to the reactor and the tech he gave the nazi-like soldiers that consumes the whole planet, effectively killing billions all at once. The cast make it out alive and it's revealed that they weren't in the past but another reality. The weight of genocide, especially of his own race, is too heavy for the protagonist to bear, and he evolves into a whiny pissant who needs to have decisions made for him (until a busty space elf tells him where his balls are MUCH later on in the game...a point where I never reached because the game fucking shutdown on an emotional level for me at that point).
So yeah, in short: Space Whatever: The Last Time I Give A Shit has a protagonist that isn't just a whiny, emo pissant, but is also THE DUMBEST MOTHER FUCKER TO GRACE JRPGs....EVER

I think I know the one line that answers this:
Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me...
Other than that, Ezio in AC:B. going from a great protagonist to a brooding guy who says lines such as "This will be useful in case I fall" and the lines he says when he gets an upgrade from Leonardo. No-one says the things he says outloud, especially if it's the only thing said in the conversation. I'd quote, but my mind has suppressed the exact words.

This guy (spoilered for size):

Nero from Devil may cry 4 I like the game, but that's because you take over and play as Dante for the second half of the game. But I found Nero whiny, he tried to be a badass and he failed, right at the beginning of the game when he is at his cardboard cutout girlfriends concert he has his headphones on, to try and make him seem badass or something, but he comes across as a total douchebag.
