Most Anticipated Games of 2014

Now that 2014 has officially begun I feel it is time to talk about games that we are looking forward this year. They can be big games that every one knows about or tiny games that no one knows about. The only condition I ask is that everyone be civil and calm. Now that I have that out of the way let us begin!

Thief Reboot: I loved Dishonored and the original Thief games and I am curious to see what this reboot from the people that brought us Deus Ex Human Revolution will be like. Unlike most people, I have high hopes for this game and though it suffers from having the bank mission as preorder DLC, I think it will end up being good.

South Park The Stick of Truth: I have been wanting to get this game for a while now and now it will be out in a few short months. I love the show and this game looks like it will be the perfect love letter to it.

Destiny: I have never really been a Halo fan, but Bungie's new game is pushing all the right buttons for me. A massively multiplayer first person shooter role playing game is something that I have always been interested in seeing and the mythic science fiction aesthetic looks amazing. Just hope it ends up working out for the best.

BioShock Infinite Burial at Sea Episode 2: I loved BioShock Infinite, Clash in the Clouds was fun, and Burial at Sea Episode 1 was a start of something great, but way to short. Episode 2 will complete the story and give us a new perspective on things by playing as Elizabeth. Just can't wait for Episode 2.

Transistor: Loved Supergiant Games last game Bastion and Transistor is looking to be both something familiar and something new. A focus on tactical combat and a personal story between two people told in an interesting way. Can't wait for this game.

Among the Sleep: A horror game played from the perspective of a two year old child. Just an awesome concept for a horror game. Can't wait to play it.

Routine: Amneisa the Dark Descent gameplay and System Shock 2 atomsphere, Hell Yeah! Add a premadeath mechanic and things really get interesting. This game looks like it will be an awesome horror game.

Broken Age: An adventure game made by the kings of adventure games. Shut up and take my money.

Xing the Land Beyond: The first game I ever played was Myst and this game looks like it is taking a lot of inspiration from it. Add a focus on ancient mythologies and you got a game with a unique and beautiful look.

The Witness: The guy that made Braid making an adventure game to act as a spiritual successor to Myst and focused on a simple puzzle mechanic that can be applied in a mind boggling number of ways. This is the one game I am look forward to more then every other and I simply can't wait for it to come out.

Persona Q and 5. Yes, I know it's only Japanese releases confirmed so far, but even so, a version of those games will be out this year.

Also, InFamous. I love that series.

And maybe Nomura will pull the plug out of his ass and finish a damn game this year.

Bayonetta 2 - need this game bought my WiiU all ready.

X (if it comes out) - my most looked forward to game bar none shame there is zero details atm.

GGXrd - Return of Guilty Gear hell yes only the return of Soul Calibur (proper SC not lost swords) or Darkstalkers could get me more hype except for maybe the one below.

Persona 4 the ultimax ultra suplex hold (if it comes out at all on consoles but whats not to like about a game with a title like this although I expect it will change just like how Persona 4 the ultimate in mayonaka arena got changed over here) - living in UK here so odds are Japan and the US will see this game and the above a year before everyone else if we see it at all which kinda kills my hype a bit hopefully they dont region lock it this time.

Persona 5 - If its out I will get it.

Darkstalkers 4 - yes its happening (ok probably isnt as in almost certainly isnt but I wish it was).

Ultra Street Fighter 4 - don know why exactly maybe because Elena is being added in but I am really looking forward to this update despite not being to bothered by Super and AE I will probably pick it back up and get bodied when this hits.

Guilty gear xrd. I'm going to buy and arcade stick on my ps4 for this game.

Dragon age 3. This is biowares last chance. DA:O was amazing, and DA2 was functional if lazy, i'm hoping the 3rd game is at the very least somewhere between the two.

Final fantasy 14: ARR ( ps4). I heard the game was good, iv'e been holding out on buying it on ps3, to get the ps4 version.

The New Smash Bros for WiiU is one.
Then when/if the next Xenoblade comes out.

To be honest I don't follow too thightly what has releas dates and when, I just notice a game in the store and think "oh, is that one out now, interesting, here's my money!"

I said it before and I'll say it again, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number. To be honest i think this year will be worse than the last for games...new consoles usually wipe the market out for a year before anything worthwhile comes out and since the controller hasn't changed much at all then the format for games will remain the same. Better graphics, better running, same old shit.

Lol, i'm such a pessimist but perhaps i've lived through enough new generations to realise the truth of it all...

The Witcher 3. I'm pining for another amazing RPG to sink my teeth into, I'm hoping this will be the one. If not I can always hold out some hope for Kingdom Come: Deliverance although there's nothing to tell on that front yet.

The Elder Scrolls Online probably.

I should add that I'm not expecting it to be great. Decent more likely. But I do think it's got the potential to be something special.

Between a hopefully fully functional first person perspective, exploration-focussed gameplay and 3-faction PvP there's a lot of potential there I think. Not expecting it to live up to that potential, but I'm still very curious to find out.

Compare it to going on safari and seeing lions. Most likely when you finally do see one it's just going to be sitting there doing absolutely nothing at all. If you're lucky it might yawn. But still, there's the potential there you might come across one right as it's stalking it's prey and see it catching and devouring it.

I would say the boatload of Persona games but Atlus as a collective all go out and get absolutely wasted once the JP and NA releases are out then six months after the afterparty someone pipes up "hold on, did we forget something? Or somewhere? OH SHIT WE FORGOT THE EU RELEASE!"

Every. Single. Fucking. Time.

I'm telling you that the new Persona 4 fighting game will be my GOTY no matter which year it comes out in. The first one was my 2013 GOTY by miles. Also we will get another Yosuke story mode. We like Yosuke's story mode. Yosuke's story mode was the surprise highlight of the entire game. Too bad they'll inevitably make Yu's boring ass route the canon one, if they go for a concrete canon one anyway. To be honest I could watch Yosuke torment himself over Labrys being a surprise robot forever. Just his luck, the one girlfriend he manages to get (really smooth with it too, 10/10) is a robot. Life's biggest loser status still confirmed.

Another bonus is that Shabrys has managed to retcon her way onto the roster in 2 as well... That is awesome since she was my favourite character but that's like the biggest hole in the canon I have ever seen.

There are literally no games coming out this year that I want to buy and play. I haven't gotten through all of the games from two generations ago that I wanted to play, let alone this one or the Xbone/PS3/WiiU generation.

Hey, I said I hate being cynical, not that I was incapable of such.

I don't want to be this way, but the industry made me as such. What with their habits of making turds look like chocolate until you buy them and then they end up being shit. It's much easier to just expect shit because that's what they do.

Funny thing is, I haven't bought a game I was disappointed in yet. All this is just caused by Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens Colonial Marines, both of which turned out to be crap and caused huge shitstorms. Like I said, I don't like being cynical, I just feel like I have to be in order not to be a complete sucker. Do you know what I mean?
