in loads of films and games there always some big device that's going to kill everything and wipe out the world or the universe. It could be the umbrella corporations virus or my personal favourite the Death Star. but what's your favourite?

the EMP satellite from Escape From LA.
one button, and it's back to the middle ages for an entire country...or the whole world, like Pliskin chose to do.

Hahaha there's a connection to this thread topic and your profile name, just wanted to point that out.

OT: I second that the Death Star is an awesome doomsday device! Also, though this isn't a device, I like plots like Independece Day where its up to one man or woman (or even a group of people) to go into up into space and be on the attack to save their nation and the world.

Can't remember which webcomic, but there's a doomsday device that works by stopping the earths rotation for a split second, ripping away ozone and levelling all the buildings. I always thought that was pretty awesome.

The Solarmanite Bomb, a weapon that causes sunlight itself to explode.

...if you know where that's from right off the top of your head, I empathize and feel sorry for you because that means you've watched the movie too.

Advanced 'Quantum Buster' from one of the Peter F Hamilton books. Makes stars go supernova.

I can't remember what the original quantum busters did, whether they destroyed single planets or were 'just' anti-matter weapons...

I think they caused mischief by disturbing the sun so it gave off (extra) mad amounts of radiation and funnelled it (through some type of shield tech or AM manipulation, I forget, been a while) at the target planet.

OT: Some of the life-as-we-know-it ending diseases, I don't know alot about biology, and what I don't know can scare me.

Polybius, It is awesome, though the only place I know it from is doomsday arcade, so as I think that that show is awesome, it causes a bit of bias in me.

Oooo I like that.

OT: I was going to say the Death Star as well, but since thats already been mentioned I going to go with the Halos. Its perfect for when you need to rid the galaxy of life.

Gona go with Nova Bombs from Andromeda. A single one basically made stars go supernova. Andromeda had 40 as a standard compliment.

EDIT; No wait, I just remembered the Dakara Superweapon from Stargate. Could create basically any kind of energy it wanted and transmit it across an entire galaxy. So you could program it to create life, destroy biological matter, break apart inorganic matter, anything really.

And from here, it's one step up to the Reality Bomb, which is powered by 20 odd planets and creates a wave of energy that breaks apart EVERYTHING and keeps going, forever, bleeding into different spacial dimensions and alternate realities. Pretty much an "End of Creation" machine.

Basically, it destroys the fabric of reality, expanding in a sphere at the speed of light, eventually erasing the entire universe.
...well, if you don't use it correctly...
