The Fountain was a pretty clever movie, but i thought it was about something very different because none of the reviewers understood the movie. Me and my friends litterally had an hour long discussion to prove we knew what it was about

Wow, I thought I was the only person who ever watched that movie and enjoyed it. I agree, extremely clever movie. I also agree about The Usual Suspects. I love any heist/crime movie with an interesting twist.
I liked Inside Man, but I didn't feel the need to watch it twice (watched it on a plane to Australia, so in fact I watched it one and a half times.)

I'll sum up with one line. "After that, my guess is that you will never hear from him again. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that... he's gone."

Yeah I watched that recently, that was a really unique movie amongst the heap of heist films.

I thought American Beauty to be clever with it's little "whodunit" thing at the end. It's not a big storytwist or anything, but it shows nicely how something gets unneccesary complicated when you count too many factors in.

Also, it was great to see in 28 days later
How the protagonist turns the tables on one group of his enemies by using the main threat of the film.

That was the first time where i could actually imagine how all these evil corporations in all these sci-fi/horror movies over the years planned to use monsters or zombies as weapons

Momento was really good. The guy has a memory that wipes after a few hours, so film runs backwards :)
Not quite right- he cannot commit anything new to long term memory, so his memory lasts only for the duration of short term memory- mere seconds.
On the dvd, there's an option to run the film in chronological order, i.e. in reverse.

I thought the butterfly effect was pretty good. Some of my favorite movies are lock, stock and two smoking barrels, snatch and Lucky Number Slevin which I think are all clever. Also, Se7en was very clever.
WARNING SPOILER ALERT: Did anyone else think that at the end of Se7en, Pitts character would kill himself? Seeing as how all the other committers of the sins died? I though it was odd that he went to jail, I thought a murder-suicide was in order to drive the message home.

Surely he would have got the death penalty for murder?

I'd have to say Memento, excellent film that left me thinking for hours afterwards.

I totally agree with most of these; I think of all the "twist" movies mentioned, my favorite is The Village, because I totally worked it out as I was watching, as it made perfect sense - i.e. maybe it's smarter to me because it didn't take a character explaining the twist or little flashbacks - I literally figured it out just before the reveal. It's a really smart movie - I think that maybe the reason a lot of people didn't like it is because the central deception didn't even cross their minds and maybe they felt a bit cheated.

If you watch the movie again, you see that Shyamalan built a fully cohesive piece that isn't just about the twist and really shows off how brilliant a director he can be. This is coming from someone that didn't really like Unbreakable by the way, so I'm not an M. Night fanboy.

As an aside, my favorite game plot twist was the revelations about the The Boss' motives in MGS3 : Naked Snake. It was so obvious but I didn't call it. I still listen to Starsailor Way to Fall all the time.

Also, Donnie Darko deserves an additional mention because it assembles a new set of rules, immerses you in that world and then breaks your heart.

But not on first viewing. On first viewing it makes no sense.

Really like the director's cut of Butterfly Effect, thought that was a really clever film, with a great ending. I've heard that the ending of the theatrical release was rubbish though.

On the subject of stupid endings, I Am Legend would have been a very smart movie if they'd have kept the original ending, instead of the ill-fitting one they chose to go with.

Snatch, Fight Club.
Surely a man after my own heart. Two of the best and most clever films of all time as far as I'm concerned.

Also The Prestige was bloody clever as well.

Primer. You really have to see it. If you liked Pi, this one's a corker. Here's the blurb from its Wiki page; a nice synopsis 'cos I'm lazy;

"Primer (2004) is an American science fiction film about the accidental invention of time travel. The film was written, directed and produced by Shane Carruth, a former mathematician and engineer, and was completed on a budget of only $7,000.

The film stars Carruth as Aaron and David Sullivan as Abe, two engineers who create a device which will allow an object or person to travel backwards in time. The pair initially use the device to cheat on the stock market, but ultimately they cannot resist the temptation to meddle with every aspect of their lives. Through recklessness they create increasingly complex paradoxes, and ultimately their newfound power begins to destroy their friendship.

Primer is of note for its extremely low budget, experimental plot structure and complex technical dialogue, which Carruth chose not to dumb-down for the sake of his audience. One reviewer said that "anybody who claims [to] fully understand what's going on in Primer after seeing it just once is either a savant or a liar." The film collected the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 2004 before securing a limited release in cinemas, and has since gained a cult following."
[Wikipedia](yes, yes I know...)

Its really hardcore to attempt following the separate time threads and paradoxes, it spawns a fair few with different versions of both characters moving through each other's worlds (timelines). I can't praise it highly enough.

For all its complexity, it is still a great watch.
