So, after getting home from watching the Green Lantern with a friend, we got to talking, mostly about him flying, which lead us to other heroes flying, which lead to this thread.

Now, I'm wondering, what is the most comfortable position to fly in? The fish guy looked kinda like he was swimming when he flew, while Hal would either look like a bullet or have one arm extended in front. And this always struck me as odd, cause from the take off point, you have ot put a tremendous amount of effort to propel yourself that high, and even more so to fly rigidly straight.

me persoanlly, i think if you jumped and just glided, and either flapped to gain altitude or motioned like swimming, it would look more natural and feel more comfortable. my friend thinks different, thinking that the best way to fly would be stream lined, rigid, and putting the effort to propel yourself up, regardless of collateral damage from the thrust of taking off.

So escapsists, what do you think is the most comfortable flying position. it doesnt have to be one of the above, can be anything you think would be comfortable as a superhero.

I've thought about this a lot, and honestly, the best thing I can come up is with one of those clear plastic umbrellas. The wind against your face at high speeds simply messes up your hair.

Really, though, it depends on the means of flying. If its telepathy or green Lantern kinda stuff, I'd just psychic up myself an invisible jetpack and let the propulsion occur in the torso, which would be pretty familiar, and feel a bit more secure.

Otherwise, I'd probably go at a 45 degree angle, so a bit forewards with legs trailing behind, but in a position good for my neck. The Superman pose is incredibly uncomfortable for the spine.

I'd just move myself forward without moving my body from a standing position. Actually seems more efficient, to be honest...

yea, I never understood why some superheroes fly with one arm extended... I guess if I ever got to fly, I would be like a T you know just have my arms stretched out to the side, and when I got real fast, my arms would have to come closer to my body causing the least resistance.

Cross-legged, sitting.

If I'm going to fly through the air, I want to be able to start a religion and milk it.

Laying down, levitating at 5mph

Fast enough to get somewhere, slow enough that wind resistance won't be uncomfortable.

Any of these:

-Limp limbs hanging from your torso
-One hoof forwards
-Leg held in roundhouse kick
-Holding an action figure of yourself in front of you and going 'SWOOSH!'
-Pepe Le Pew/Pinkie Pie Bounce (too much pony?)

There is no comfortable flying position in my opinion. You are in a giant flying bullet with strangers. Miles above the ground. A pillow might help though.
