The AI companions in Dead Rising. Those guys are probably the most enjoyable escort quests I've ever played in a game... mostly because they can fight, can follow behind you without being dragged by the nose, you can actually GIVE them weapons (including guns) if they don't have one, and they've actually got a decent amount of health.

Hell, a great strategy for the game is to gather alot of AI partners before a tough section. And these are the guys you are supposed to be PROTECTING.

Dead Rising 2 would have been HELLISH if the AI sucked, but thankfully it's pretty damn good.
Did we play different games or something? o_O The A.I. in Dead Rising was infuriating for me, enough to the point where I just said "Fuck it" and let them die.
Oh, whoops. I meant to say Dead Rising 2. In fact, I DID say it the second time, but I forgot the "2" the first time I said it. Fixed.
Is the A.I. that much better in 2? If thats the case I might have to move it up on the list of games i need to try

All of Fallout: New Vegas' companions are efficienrt killing machines (but inefficient pathfinders). I prefer my A team of Cass (underrated and versatile) and Rex (so many knockdowns).

Kasumi from Mass Effect 2 is pretty awesome with her Shadow Strike.

Star Wars Republic Commando by far. The AI teammates weren't only highly capable of dealing with enemies, but the game did a very, very good job of giving each one a personality and you could beat the game on Hard using just your squad. That's impressive AI by my standards.

hero AI in guild wars was pretty good, in terms of interrupts anyway, i also remembered that they were amazing minion masters and healers, altho it could be because they have excellent reflexes.

Drakengard 1

They didn't exist.
I love you.
I love the fan reasoning for having no allies in 1 is that Caim's men were so scared of him that they didn't want to die by their commander's hands XD.

The AI in 2 was... Painful.
I always thought they were just made up of random peasants who had no combat experience and, after seeing caim decimating whole armies on his own, just fled behind the nearest tree's to act as cheerleaders so they wouldn't have to risk getting hurt.

That said, yeah, Drakengard 2's A.I was painful, but not as painful as Nowe!
His name was foreshadowing to my feelings of him. There was No Way I would ever like him. Though he did give us Urick, a badass of godly proportions.

I personally think the AI in Freedom Fighters is pretty good for its time, considering how many are on-screen at once. They dodge cars and explosives, they take cover and use enemy emplacements, their "moods" can change from defensive to aggressive... and all with only three commands.

Also, Star Wars: Republic Commando. It's all been said already, so... yeah.

honestly? supreme commander, if you defend a tech ai it will get too op to stop quite rapidly

most modern racing games have very well tuned ai's
friend of mine cant beat the forza 4 ai's because apparently he taught them to push him off the road..
what a nut.

'player character' ai's are never right simulating a human is too hard for a computer to do in my opinion

probably the most useful was the marines in crysis 2, but i still wouldn't call them good.. they'd loose an fps match every time against people

i found Halo Reach's partner Ai to be better than the norm. and of course the enemy ai is superb but what ever.

but i think next up is most Ai in valve games and i geuss bad company's ai didn't get in my way.
You're kidding right? Sometimes Kat would go wander off apart from the fact that ENEMIES are fucking annoying with they're infinite clips and pinpoint accuracy on legendary. And they are so useless!!

I guess for me it's New Vegas, Gears 3, L4D2, MW2 weren't that smart and never really covered you but never got in my way and they use to throw the grenades back unlike black ops where they aim like my dead grandmother and don't throw back grenades just run like little girls. /rant

I haven't played a lot of games where I have teammates that I can remember.

So I'll go with ME1. Kaidan (when he was a high level), Ashley, Tali and Wrex mostly had my back. This is the most competent I've ever seen.

Maybe because I also mostly called the orders.

I know there are probably a bajillion games with better AI, but I've never actually played them myself. I'll ask my brother later, when he's awake.

Your allies from Black Site Area 51 were amazing if their moral was good, which added realism and made it more believable due to the fact that if you get shot your not gonna do as well... still they did as told, kept outta my way, and got in the trucks when I did like AI is supposed too *Glares at Halo3(only one I have and ever will play)*

Resident Evil 4. Ashley was never once a nuisance for me. She ducked when I was aiming in her direction, she yelled "behind you!" when an enemy was on your back, she could hide in boxes while I was kicking ass, and best of all: She never used up all of my herbs. I'm looking at you, Sheva!
I absolutely agree. People talk about hating Ashley all the time, but she did everything an escorted character should have done. On top of that she grounded the game with a since of defenselessness. Sure Leon could handle hoards of zombies like an action hero, but you need to make sure both were kept alive, It was bigger than you. Plus I feel the scene when you have to play as Ashley was one of my favorite parts, no guns, no fighting ability, all you can do is run and hide (and throw torches).
