I once tried to play Through the Fire and Flames on my electric guitar.
...
My hands still hurt.

I played the James Bond theme, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Golden Eye on the trombone.
Edit: Actually now that I think of it the craziest thing I've played on the trombone was Bunker Hill. It's in cut time and I had no breath mark until measure 64 and that was added in.

I never took any lessons on how to play a piano. I had, at the time this happened, only played (read: messed around with) a piano twice before.

Then I tried to adapt this, on the spot, without any sheet music, to a piano and play it.

That was fun. Ill-advised and a complete failure, but fun.

Magdelene from Silent Hill 2 on the piano.

I went by ear since it seemed like a simple song to play. I was so happy that day. :')

A very old band of mine used to play Van Halen's "Jump" and I did the solo note for note on the guitar. From about 2:15...

Of course EVH makes it look easy (it helps that he's miming too) but damn that thing is hard to get right. Even EVH himself is sloppy at it these days, watch this horrible recent live performance from about 3:10...

The craziest thing I've ever played on an instrument, at least for an audience, would be one of the four parts in an arrangement of the above song for a classical guitar quartet. The guitar version of this is actually crazier, due to the different sound of a classical guitar compared to a full orchestra. I've done some rock, blues, and if Nightwish counts, metal as well, but this song is, frankly, much crazier than anything else I've played in concert on an instrument. I spent my first year of college as a music major, so I did some pretty interesting things. I wish I had access to the recordings we made of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, which I was also a part of. That's the group that I was in that did the craziest music I've ever done, but the question was instrument, not vocals, so whatever.

I guess this is the 'craziest' thing I've played at a performance standard. I'm definitely working on going crazier though.

Nice.

OT: Does harmonizing with myself while dual-wielding baritones (think the trumpets steroid-abusing brother) count? 'cuz I did.

Well, if we're talking about songs that we've actually performed...

Trumpet:
Either First Circle, Where Never Lark Or Eagle Flew, or Godzilla Eats Las Vegas

Trombone:
Probably "Sing, Sang, Sung"

Drums:
Tom Sawyer?...maybe War Pigs
Seriously? You should know these ones.
