Saren. Forced to admit he's a puppet, fail to fight out his implants, and has to blow his brains out. That was a tragic end.
Really? I mean it sucks to have to kill yourself for freedom but really, I thought it gave him some nobility back.

Solidus in Metal Gear Solid 2.

The guy is trying to free America from the grip of a Illuminati like group, bent on controlling the nation and flow of information, and he gets a high frequency blade through the spine.
And, on that note, Big Boss in the first MGS. Killed by your own son for trying to stop said Illuminati-esque group from playing with soldiers' lives like puppets. And, more to the point, killed by one man, on foot, armed with a Stinger launcher, while he's riding in a bipedal tank that shoots nukes. Ouch, man...

Bob Paige in Deus Ex`s Helios ending "Helios - don`t leave me!" sort of resonated with me.
Similar with Gunther Hermann's end. While not much was said in the actual dialogu, reading the journals in the Knight's Templar castle shook me up. After having the only woman he could have loved killed by JC, he dedicated himself to ending Jc's life, only to be cast off by his employer as a mere puppet, afterwards.

I would have to ditto Andrew Ryan's demise. Absolutely disturbing as hell and equally pathetic.

I'd like to add the final boss in Urban Chaos: Riot Response. He's got a hostage, and you shoot him onto a hook that drops him into an industrial mincer.

The Master in Fallout. Especially if you follow the dialog ending.

Probably also The King of Shadows from NWN2, not so much his fate, but, how he got where he was at the beginning of the game. Somehow digging through the Library and finding the ghost of the woman he had loved particularly resonated for me. Even though most of the game was pure camp.

ooooh. alot of the dead rising bosses have cruel endings, Carlito's is pretty bad, hung on a huge meathook and batted around by a fatman call Larry. The cult leader's death is gruesome, A SWORD TO THE FACE! owch.

Andrew Ryan probably wins but that Emo kid from dead rising has a bad one too, Dropping a Molotov cocktail on your crotch and burning to death while a crazy-ass photographer takes pictures of you for the comedy factor.

I saved him because I wanted him to make me cocktails, but the clown or the cult leader would get my vote for highest "wince factor" deaths in Dead Rising.

Oh, God, the clown...that is the only time I've ever felt nauseous due to a video game.

I don't know, I'd say being beaten by a gender-confused ninja would be worse (lol oh shiek).

Anyways, I'd say the worst fate has to go to Ganondorf. No matter how devious the scheme he devises is, he knows deep down that a fairy boy wearing a skirt is going to beat him...not to mention that he's going to wake up the next day/generation with a splitting headache

Lacroix out of VTM Bloodlines, in any ending where you walk away from him- He finally opens the sarcophagus, the culmination of all his dreams, all his whelling and dealing since the start of the game only to find out he is f**ked. loved the the little insult too. Even he relises how hes been played and sees the beautiful irony to it.

Cassandra De Vres out of Perfect Dark- She realizes she's been being used all this time by the Skedar and so decides to use her life to give Joanna a shot at taking the Skedar down. The fact that she understood that she was no fighter and that by throwing her life away she could at least get some vengance struck a chord with me.

Gamall out of theif: deadly shadows- At the end shes left with absoluotly nothing. Shes just a sad old woman whos time is rapidly aproaching.

Dead Rising just made me flashback. The worst I've seen had to be the clown (I swear, something in Frank's mind must've snapped at that point), but the obese cop is a close second, simply because she seemed to be getting off on the fact she was dying.

Freaking ew...

Isn't this kind of problematic, since the villain is going to have to be someone I sympathized with in order for me to feel bad about their fate?

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance would kinda qualify to me, but there really wasn't a villain. I never could understand why your character was so dead set on destroying the giant magic fantasy world where he was a mercenary badass, his little brother could walk, his albino friend was cool, and the "villain" just wanted to keep the fantasy real so his alcoholic dad and dead mom would keep him company.

His fate being...ha ha now you're just normal again.
I second that, the only reason you stoped him was because Ivalice "wasent real". Wth, isent that what videogames are about?

I would have to agree. Having a sword shoved into your face and living has got to suck out loud. Especially the fifth time around.
You'd think he'd start wearing helmets or something, huh?

Not everyone wants to live in a fantasy world forever. I mean, it does get boring after a while. What is really the main reason for going into a fantasy world? To escape from reality for a short time, right? Plus, he wasn't treated as a "villain" per se, more like a REALLY stubborn and confused kid...

On-Topic: King Bohan's humiliating defeat at the end of Heavenly Sword is a perfect example of going from the top of the world to the lowest of filth. Seriously, he got stabbed in the balls and generally got his ass royally kicked by Nariko in the end, and if that wasn't enough, his "master" comes in and PLUCKS HIS EYEBALLS OUT! Now that's cruel!
