Simple, what is the most depressing song you have ever heard?
For me it would be Hurt by Johnny Cash

Original Post Victory makes for a boring thread.

Adam's Song by Blink 182. Seriously, that song could probably make me go from "i just got married"-happy to crying.

Hurt was already posted, though you should at least <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF4JaSBu1cI>credit the original band with it, not the cover artist.

EDIT: I would actually say this is more depressing

Probably Winter by Joshua Radin mostly because of Ben. God, that episode broke me down...

Nostalgia by Emily Barker, it's the theme song for BBC's Wallander and it suits the show perfectly.

I don't know how to embed so you'll have to listen to it on the link

Doesn't really have a message w/o the video, mind. But it's a fairly realistic depiction of the sort of behavior that leaks out of 'beliveau' (spelling?) estate housing projects in the various parts of France.

Also, nobody's put these up yet:

All the above videos could be interpreted more as disturbing, unsettling or creepy, rather than "depressing", but it's all in how different people take things.

I think Chelsea Hotel No. 2 by Leonard Cohen is my favorite sad song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dx11oNHPDrA

Also, Snuff by Slipknot (it's acoustic btw)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJXEerT4TCk

Also stuff like Disarm by the Smashing pumpkins, This Time Imperfect by AFI and similar.

That's what I listen to when I need a bit of a cry.

Also, I disagree with calling any of the songs here 'depressing', because tbh I don't think we'd listen to stuff if all it did was bum us out. Melancholy or just sad... That's different. Sometimes its good to feel sad.

Streetlight Manifesto is a great band that likes to make you feel bad with songs that seem upbeat.

Johnny Cash's version is so much sadder though.

And that's why, every once in a while, when topics like this come up, it is inevitably the most posted response.

I never really saw the attraction in that version of Mad World tbh. I generally don't like covers of stuff like this, just because I think it looses something to just be singing someone elses sentiments. Needs to be original to make the cut for me.

The johnny cash version of hurt is kinda different I guess, since he has a whole catalog of sad stuff.

Haha, well, I'm not actually married. I just used it as an example for what people in general consider something to be very happy about. Maybe I should have said "just won lifetime supply of bacon"-happy or something?
