Half life 2. Seriously. After all that the strange feller with the briefcase showing up...kinda odd
Did you play Half-life? Because it makes perfect(ish) sense then. After all it is a sequel.

OT. Oblivion. After all that fighting and saving the world from Mehrunes Dagon and the Daedra everything instantly went back to normal. No damage. No rebuilding. No trauma or even comments from the NPC's. WTF!?

to me personally, the ending to Call of Duty MW 2 was a dissapointment.

*SPOILER ALERT*

what the fuck happens? Russia is still at war with America, and the two main characters have now just buggered off into non-existence.
unless theres a bloody decent sequel with Price and McTavish its a bit of a let down. i mean all you stopped was some arsehole general changing history, you didnt particularly save many lives did you? ffs

The one that comes to me off the top of my head is the end of Assassin's Creed 2, where

Minerva is talking to Ezio, but she's staring at the camera the entire time, breaking the fourth wall. Then she says 'Desmond', meaning that she's talking to you from five hundred years in the past. Desmond's response was pretty much mine: "What the fuck?"
As well as everyone playing. Since technically he's supposed to see it through his ancestor's eyes it would have looked like she was staring into space. Also made his response funnier. Modern Warfare 2's entire story was stupid and confusing. So of course I hated the ending. How exactly did Shepard get out of that helicopter crash unharmed? After the terrorist attack that got the plot started, why would a U.S general declaring Soap and co. traitors carry any weight in the world at large? They're british after all! It's just annoying as hell.

Edit: Plus hey starting World War 3! Only A Bond Villain parody could be dim enough to think that's a good idea.

Depressing: Red Dead Redemption (I fucking cried)

Weird: Assassins Creed 2 ( I said "what the fuck" then Desmond went "what the fuck" too! Guess I wasn't the only one that was confused!)

Disappointing: Borderlands (seriously that's it?!)

The Longest Journey

Oh, you saved the world! Great... now scram because it turns out you weren't the 'chosen one' after all, so go running home to daddy. Oh, what's that, your daddy is an abusive alcoholic that nearly crippled you as a child and everyone else you know is either dead or you think hates you because you're the cause of the death of the other friends? Well too bad because you ain't wanted here anymore.

So, um... yeah, good luck with that!

Cheerful ending eh? No wonder April Ryan was such a ***** in the sequel. After getting screwed over that hard I would be an ass too!

Probably most of the endings in the School days game, sure they're more than likely because you played the Main character like a jerkass, bit it still hits you emotionally when you watch him try to make it home as he slowly dies limping against a wall s he remembers everything and truly regrets his actions. And even if you get a good end you still end up hurting someone badly. Sure they might not be the most realistic deaths, but eh.

Little King Story. It was both weird and depressing well the final level was depressing before you fight the final boss.

The ending to Mafia 1. I mean it was all looking up and he had grown old and was living in his home and caring for his family. And then one day a car drives up next to him when he's watering his grass. They ask his name. He answers. One of them pulls out a Sawn of shotgun and blasts his stomache open. The end.

Its just fricking sad. And this was before games tended to kill their characters for dramatic effect so it was even more surprising and dramatic when it happened.

I don't know why I always forget this first, maybe it's becaue I tend to look at my shelf for ideas and I don't have this one there at the moment but

Planescape Torment

You defeat The Transcendent One, make peace with your past mistakes. Become a truly good and noble person, find love in a perpetually angry Irish demon girl and solve the mystery of your immortality and identity. And then you go to hell to fight in a never ending war against demons were you will nothing but fighting and carnage

and that's the GOOD ending.
Remember, Fall-From-Grace promises to bust you out of the Abyss/Baator/Gehenna/Carceri/Grey Waste/Whatever. And in Planescape, Petitioners can certainly leave their afterlife plane easily. The Nameless One has hundreds of thousands of years of experience, so escaping wouldn't be a problem.

The ending of Fallout was a big shock to me (thanks for all your help... now cya!), Fucking overseer.
Yeah that was a pain in the ass alright. It was made better by being able to shoot his shoulder off though.

The ending of GTA4 was pretty grim.
Regardless of what path you take your cousin or your love interest ends up getting gunned down. Compared to every other GTA were you end the game on top of your empire running a whole city.

-snip-
I think the point of that was a cliff hanger to the next game. Which is obviously in turmoil now over the fallout between IW and Activision. I thought that was a rather good end to a game. It's just a shame we may never see how it all folds out now.

Bioshock 2's 'good' ending blew me away, it was so dark, moving and beautiful.
Wait, do you mean to say that you found Bioshock 2's good ending to be depressing, or that you liked it? I mean, the good ending isn't sad at all, but the neutral ending? Man, that's sad as hell.

It may be depressing, but it's also my favorite of the endings.

I've played some weird shit in my time, but whoever wrote the endings for Drakengard must have been dumped that week or something. At the time I got it I thought, hmmmmm, Square game and discounted, why not?

*SPOILER ALERT*

The game itself isn't that bad, but my goodness the endings are depressing. Either everybody the hero cares about dies, xcept in the "best" ending, where reality breaks down, everybody gets eaten by weird, big alien babies (so they still all die). You then get sucked into our "real world" have the most bizzarre final boss fight in history, you save the world and then promptly get killed because - wait for it - a fighter jet mistakes you for an enemy jet and splatters you all over a Tokio skyscraper....

* END SPOILER*

Can anyone think of anything to top that?
I went into this thread thinking 'Drakengard'
So... ummmmmm... this

Diablo 1. Your hero PUTS DIABLO'S SOULSTONE INTO HIS/HER OWN HEAD!
Then you find out that that was exactly what Diablo wanted, because now he had a much stronger body to use to set off Diablo II...

The only one I can think of as of right now, it has got to be the "Bad" ending in the Force Unleashed II

*SPOILER ALERT*

The game in itself isn't all to bad, but the so called bad ending kinda sucked, its all like. Lol Vader lied to you AGAIN saying that the cloning process was imperfect and while you were trying to find your girlfriend he made the perfect clone and killed you and your friends. Sorry and thanks for playing, now go and play this past boss battle again so that you can have the "Good Ending"

* END SPOILER*

At least the bad ending for the first game fit the mood of the game sort of

Mafia. But even though it's sad as hell, I liked it. It couldn't end any other way. A story about Mafia can't have a happy ending.

Max Payne 2. The original one. The atmosphere, the music, the writing, it blew me away the first time I saw it. Every time I complete that game I have a smoke and think about the ending.
