Emerald and Ruby are a good one, but I never bothered with them, so I can't really say.

I'm tempted to say a section in HL:Blue Shift, where playing on Hard without a save to fall back on for some reason, I had the pistol only and 5 life, and had to turn a corner to face 3 marines, and spent an hour trying to do get the 5 headshots or so required on each before they squeezed off a single shot. It may not be a boss, but it felt like it.

So I'm going to have to go with the Shin Akuma boss in Capcom Vs. SNK 2. Ive never seen a life bar go down so fast. The Liquid Kasumi in DOA4 is a close second, cause of the ridiculous spinning monstrosity that takes half your life, and the randomly dodging by teleporting behind you and killing you move. Though I had a friend that seemed to have a pretty good system using Ayane.

Dr. Wily - Mega Man 7. For those of you unfamiliar with the battle it goes like this:

He launches 4 homing orbs at you at a time, which have a pattern of shooting themselves at you for a short distance, stopping, and then changing direction so that you're in their path. They stop twice - once when Wily's saucer launches them out, and then again after flying at you. The third time they fly at you, they fly off the screen if you miss. They're tough to dodge, even if you know how to dodge them, as you have to trick them into giving you space to dodge them.

After launching the orbs, Wily slowly teleports, giving you enough time to fully charge a shot (it takes about 32 fully charged shots to beat him. By comparison, you die in about 5-6 hits). You can only hit him once every time he appears.

Almost any boss from Dragon Quest VIII. That game takes way more grinding than the Final Fantasy series.
Yeah, I gave up at fighting the ghost pirate dude.

I don't really have that much that come to mind but there is that one cage boss in RE4 towards the end on that island part that was just so friggin' impossible! (You know, the one that is in those dark labyrinths where you have to run for your life and press buttons, and then right after in this mini-colosseum type where he runs after you and you have to blast him with like...75 magnum bullets?! At the mean time he can slice your head off with 2 hits and you're done for.)
That or the boss RIGHT AFTER that one (I think his name was Krauser) where you have to do this treasure hunt thingy and then he grows this grotesque arm and cuts you in half.
Now admittedly, both aren't so hard its just that I want a challenge and went on the hardest difficulty setting. (Pro?)
Now I dare anyone else to do that.

If it wasn't already posted I'd say MM7's Wilyporter too. I'd prefer to mention something a bit more up-to-date, but thinking back there's only two bosses that have ever causes me to quit a game for a long period of time: MM4's finale- the very first incarnation of the Wilyporter- and Agron from Final Fantasy Legend 3 aka SaGa.

For the latter it's a combination of suddenly losing Dion, your 5th member, the annoying maze leading up to it, and the sheer power of the boss' attacks, some of them surpassing the 999HP cap. The final boss of that game was actually easier than Agron for me (28k HP versus 45k, not a huge difference). At least then you have a 5th member and the best healer in the game, plus your airship sporadically helping you out to boot (why doesn't that happen in more RPGs? It was cool ATT). I was young when I came against the former, but he remains to this day the 2nd hardest Megaman boss, a battle based mostly on pure luck and how much Pharoah Shot and Ring Boomerang energy you had left.

mother fucking lou I played him on medium because I played medium since 1 and now playing on hard would be like asking me to jump off the empire state building and survive but that fucker expected me to play the devil went down to Georgia survive the most frustrating solo known to mankind and still survive with enough energy to beat his ass while using the mother fucking ORANGE button I'm sorry but when did medium get an orange button with out the difficulty up power up being used in battle. oh and I am not the fucking flash so don't expect me to be able to make my fingers move 30 miles a damn second.
I've gotten 5 stars on 95% of all Hard songs, beaten Slash on Expert and gotten to Concert number 6 on Expert. But do you think I even stand a chance at beating Lou on Hard? No f-ing chance in Hungary!!

Quick question... Does the Blitzball match in Final Fantasy X against the Luca goers count as a boss match? (The first Blitzball match obviously, not the ones later which are ridiculously easy) If so, that's it. If not, then the horse guy from Ninja Gaiden for me, second or third boss, I can't remember... I never did figure out how to beat him but apparently my 11y/o cousing did it in no time.

BTW guys, i don't think it counts as a hard boss if you are talking about the FF series (or others like it) and saying that a boss is hard at level 35 or so. If you can get to level 99 or at least significantly higher than 35 (without grinding for 38 years) then it doesn't really count, I think. :\

Also, don't say that boss battles are the hardest if done on Expert, or Hard, or Extreme, or Impossible, or Legendary... Just my opinion, but I think that the question refers to bosses that are hard on Normal difficulty. Those harder ones are put there to challenge advanced players.

This isnt a boss but I hate it more then any boss in a game Ive played ever. I hated trying the ambulance missions (especially in original vice city, but also in san andreas) I would have had 100% for vice city if I had been able to get past the ambulance side quest, and what sucks is my ambulance tips over on the beach on my way to deliver my VERY LAST patient to the hospital... I havent played vice city since.

The creepy moth thing from Echos. It is not actualy hard, yet unless you know how to destroy it, you will waist hours fighting it.
The Chykka thing or whatever... The Larva stage was the only hard part.

And let me add the Level 2 alien boss from Metal Slug 3. Almost impossible.

I think that Emerald and Ruby Weapon count, because they are still almost impossible at max level. By that criteria, you have to exclude all games where you level up, get more skills, or in other ways, improve. For example, theres plenty bosses in MMOs that I would say are legitimately tough, and I don't think there disqualified just because you could come back 10 levels later and destroy them. On harder difficulties, I think the difficulty can be made exemplary, or perhaps a seemingly easy boss might become a lot more difficult then expected on a greater difficulty, in comparison to the rest of the games difficulty.

no SNK bosses yet? Or why not Jinpachi (just since he's so cheap with that undodgable lazor attack)

Definitely the Doom Dragon at the end of Golden Sun Lost Age. I know it's sad to use a boss from a turn-based game, but that guy killed me so many times using the same fucking super-powered attacks multiple times in a round. The only way to beat him was to grind levels until you got an equally super-powered healing spell, and then make your healer sit around healing every single turn and hoping to god her magic didn't get sealed.

Because if you didn't, even once, you were totally and genuinely fucked. Again.

The boss at the end of Hurricane pack 2 of Ninja Gaiden... or various missions in NGB if you never got the Hurricane packs. The chick with the whip... you had to use "sploits" to beat her... on any difficulty.

Uh... I will second (3rd?) the guy who said Lou on GH3. Hes retardedly difficult. I used the Hyperspeed cheat and have managed to beat him once and only once on hard...

If your crazy enough to play Lost Planet on Extreme or whatever... the first missions boss is pretty much impossible. Though thats not so much being difficult as it is being cheap/frusterating.

Oh I almost forgot... Alpha 1-52 from Dead or Alive 4. OMG! What is it with Team Ninja in destroying the hopes and dreams of the fans of their games... The only way to beat her is to play her continuously and hope you get lucky...

Now that you mention it, most King Of Fighters bosses only have a total of three moves, all of which kick the everloving crap out of you and are super-cheap.

Warhawk in Twisted Metal: Black on Very Hard. Even playing as Minion you die in 5 hits.
Bonetail in Paper Mario2
And lastly the 3rd time you fight Nelo Angelo in DMC1 on Dante Must Die mode.

Some of the bounty bosses in Skies of Arcadia Legends were pretty damn difficult I seem to remember.

Like that... fat guy... with his money attack cat thing...

Okay, so I haven't played the game in years (somehow lost my copy), but I distinctly remember the rediculous difficulty and eventually just cheaping out and using a hero potion (or whatever it was called).
