Simple enough question. What is the most difficult boss you've faced in a game?

I have two that I found to be ridiculously difficult.

First up is Dark Bahamut from Final Fantasy X. That fight was ridiculous. You spend most of the battle trying desperately to keep your party members alive and free of status effects and there is very rarely any good opportunity to attack. Still I managed to beat him after a hell of a long fight. Definitely the hardest Dark Aeon I found.

Second would be Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts. He attacks relentlessly from the outset and all of his attacks are very damaging and hard to dodge. I actually don't think I managed to ever beat him.

Possibly the Skullgirl in Skullgirls. She isn't too hard to deal with the first two phases, but her third phase....

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH.

She floats in the air where normal attacks can't reach her, so I have to use air attacks to hit her. And I absolutely suck at performing those. At the same time, I have to avoid her many attacks while attempting to pull them off. Of course she's easier with certain characters. I was able to beat her with Cerabella, Fillia, and Peacock.

It's funny really, I hear people say that she's easy with Peacock and harder with Cerabella. It's actually the opposite with me. While Cerabella, from what I remember, doesn't have very many good air attacks, what she did have did enough damage to end the fight quickly before things got out of hand. With Peacock however, I spent at least an hour trying to beat her.

I then tried with Painwheel, but I couldn't get my head wrapped around on how to control her effectively for that fight. Eventually, I just gave up. I wasn't going to spend another hour fighting this *****.

I guess it doesn't help that I'm generally not very good at fighting games. :/

If we're counting MMO, probably Kael'Thas. That guy was an asshole and his fight lasted like twenty years with a bajillion phases to it... alright, slight exaggeration, but still it was really long and demanding. On the plus side it was also epic as hell and every class had a role to play, so when you finally did take the guy down it felt fantastic.

Not counting MMO's... hmm... the mothership in FTL is a monster. I've killed it maybe one out of every five times I've gotten to it, and even then half those victory are just luck.

I always struggle with bosses in fighting games. Though it's usually because they are always cheap assholes.

That rebel flagship was the bane of my existence until I realized I could use cloaking to avoid the drone overload.

FTL mothership. Basically impossible without the right setup. Which you have to be incredibly lucky to obtain.

EDIT: Skimmed over the earlier post... but yeah, that one.

Hmm... World of Warcraft had so many good fights it's kinda hard to pick.
Vashj, Kael, Yogg, Lich King...

I'll just say Yogg 0 lights then. Faced, not beaten :p (We did beat 1-light I think). Managing your sanity, reacting quickly to new tentacles that pop up, getting the right portal into the brain room, tight DPS requirements in phase 3.

For single player, probably Jubileus from Bayonetta. It's so loooong without a save checkpoint, it's very hard not to slip up and be a half second too late to avoid the black holes of insta-death.

Uhm one of the Summon night bosses, probably number 2.
That asshole was a pain in the ass, and such as classic japanese rpgs dictate, he had several forms. Now that I think about it I can't remember if it was a he or she, just that they were a pain in the ass.

Another painful boss level would be the final level "The land of the livid dead" the run through the level was brutal and the boss while easy after a few minutes practice, was still a pain.

That level was ridiculous. At the very least, it isn't like the original Rayman in which you had both limited lives and limited continues. That fact alone makes the stage bearable.

Fucking Manus from Dark Souls and his bloody abyss magic. Even with the pendant it's a pain in the ass to time correctly, near impossible to dodge and one shots my character. FUUUUUUUUCK.

depends on what you mean by difficult
i remember (i think) a prince of persia game on the wii and after about 50 hours of slowly knocking down his health it went into an epic series of quick time events with splt second timing and if you screwed it up you were back to square one

The Sea Witch, in City of Heroes.

Villain characters could encounter her twice - the first time around level 12 she was a piece of cake, but she reappeared in another story arc about 10 levels later with some new powers and became a lot harder. Her electrical abilities would drain your endurance in record time, switching off any knockback defence you had and so allowing her to use her storm powers to blow you all over the damn ship on which you fought her... usually into groups of her allies, who would then summon their allies, so a one vs one fight would rapidly escalate into a one vs where-the-hell-did-all-these-dudes-come-from fight.

I remember on my first run from 1-50 I turned down the difficulty twice after lvl 10 or so. Once was for Lord Recluse - the big bad of the entire villainside game - and once for the Sea Witch. When I ran up against her on my next character she was equally challenging.

Funny thing is though, as irritating as she was, I'd seldom skip that arc. Taking on the Sea Witch was almost a rite of passage for my villains - a test of how strong they really were.

The last boss in Blinx: The Time Sweeper took me two months to beat when I first played the game at age 12ish. He's not so hard but the mechanics were a pain to figure out as a kid. Not only does he rewind time so you have to face several of the game's other hardest bsoses before him, you're thrown right back into the fight with him once you kill them. It's a battle you have to come to prepared for. Once I had it down though, it was and still is one of the most fun boss fights I've ever played.

Other than that, The Four Horseman in Naxxramas in Vanilla WoW. If you thought it was hard having getting 25 WoW players to shuffle from different ends of the room and having your 4 tanks properly taunt the bosses across the room. you have no idea how hard it was to get 40 barely geared for it players to do the same. Good times.

I don't think he was talking about Rayman 3. Which is a shame since that's one of my all time favourite games. The only difficult bosses in that game were the two Reflux battles. The first battle with him was the best, that gorgeous arena stage and that amazing sountrack.

Wait until you face the Dark Magus sisters and penance they make Dark Bahamut look weak in comparison same with anima I suppose but I only had trouble with Penance and the Dark Magus sisters (I suppose I could have used yojimbo but thats no fun)

I think you can change that to most fighting game bosses they tend to get pretty ridiculous Bloody Marie (mary? the skullgirl anyway) is actually not that bad compared to a lot of them but she is still not fun to fight imo although apparently she is easier after the patch but I havent tried it to test it out. SNK bosses are pretty ridiculous by and large talk about a ridiculous moveset. The ones that made me rage the hardest this gen were Seth from SF4 and Alpha from DOA4 words cannot describe how pissed off I got trying to beat them with characters that I didnt main.

I suppose the hardest boss I ever faced was one on wartech senko no ronde the game was on very easy (because I sucked at it) and it seems different characters had different bosses and I cleared quite a few but this one boss bloody hell he would one shot you on very easy mode so yeah one mistake and good odds you are dead even better he had at least 2 forms (never killed the second form) in this second form he would turn into a tiny ship and fill the screen with lasers which though not instant kill did a lot of damage and yup if you die its straight back to the first form to try again.

I never did beat it I just decided to turn it off and chill the hell out.

Oh there is also Baal in the Disgaea series not hard as such but impossible unless you put in a stupid amount of effort to level up all your stats (more than most people are willing to put into the game myself included).

If we're counting MMOs then I'd say Yogg-Saron's hardest mode. Took a week of mostly standing in front of the doorway. Got a lot of trouble from Mimiron in the first week, too. Still have that on video.

As for single player games: Vergil, on DMD, in Devil May Cry 3. That bastard is the most infuriating boss I've ever fought. I've still not beaten him.

Ozma in FFIX, it took me about five tries to beat him, and the first time i didn't even get to attack before he destroyed me, you need to get your parties equipment, setup, roles, abilities, and even level perfect in order to beat him.

After that, beating the Shadow Queen in Paper Mario and the thousand year door with only one super shroom.

I think Dark Bahamut was the only one I actually managed to defeat, but I can't remember so well haha. You know who's much worse though? Dark Magus Sisters, holy hell... Have you not encountered them yet? Just ridiculous...

I have not played any boss anyone above has mentioned...so i'm guessing my list is a bit more casual...

dark souls -Capra Demon (probably because there was no1 to summon)
Deus Ex HR- Barret..until i looked up the easy way

The last boss in one of the old sonic games is pretty annoying when you have 0 rings and diminishing lives
Uncharted 2 final boss

I swear the final league battles in pokemon games got harder and harder with each subsequent game

Mega Man 8(Or was it 7?) Dr wily's second form. I hated those damn undodgable orbs. I hate how none of the weapons are particularly effective on him. I hate him.

tough question, I'd have to go with the end boss of Xcom (dont worry, no spoilers) the first time I beat it through sheer luck, but when half your squad is dead and the other half is under enemy controll its near impossible to take it down.

The first boss in that one uber-hard Devil May Cry game (3?). Never beat him. Didn't really try. Wasn't interested.

In my child years of gaming, Ultros (first encounter) in FF6 because Banon kept dying. In hindsight, I'm not even sure HOW I failed at him.
