Tough one. I really want to say something from Dark souls but I would be lying. I think the hardest boss Ive fought in recent memory was when I tried soloing the Tyrant zombie in Raiderz a few months ago. You have to have perfect dodges nearly the whole fight or he can very easily kill you. It took me around 10 tries before I finally did it and even fighting Gwyn while completely naked and with default fists doesnt require the timing that fight does

Trust me, you're not the only one. The one after him is potentially even worse if your characters are slow.

As for the hardest one I've ever faced, there's only one I remember that has consistently killed me no matter how many times I play through the game- Boost Guardian in Metroid Prime 2. Even when you know all the tricks he can surprise you and take off about 90 energy for your trouble when your highest possible E-Tank count is 4 and it's already counting down from Dark Aether's atmosphere. The worst combination is for him to go into Boost Ball mode, smack into you (he moves incredibly fast in this state) and THEN transform into a blood puddle while you're next to him for 150+ damage on Hard Mode! I've beaten every Metroid game multiple times except for Hunters, and if I play Prime 2 10 more times Boosty will remain by far my greatest challenge.

...Except for the distinguished few I've never beaten despite multiple tries, such as Zophar in Lunar 2. You know a boss is truly hard when there's exactly one video on Youtube of someone beating him, and it's five videos long.

Cthulu was pretty hard in Magika, but at least beatable.

The one boss that pissed be off the most was in that Hulk game for Gamecube. It was some other guy who had turned into a hulk equivalent whose lifebar regenerated 3 times, and it was hard enough just getting it down one life bar. Ugh, I never beat that boss.

Oh god, New Destroyman so much! No More Heroes 2 is a pretty hard game to begin with, and New Destroyman and the Final Boss (who is the worst boss and the worst character in the series) are just impossible. New Destroyman is only higher than the Final Boss because you play as Shinobu, who is the worst character ever. After she finishes a combo, she pauses for a second to taunt the enemy. The only way to avoid that is never do a combo, which to me is the only way to beat the fight. Not to mention, there are 2 bosses at the same time. So yeah, besides a few stupid Monster Hunter hunts, that is the hardest fight.

The first boss in that one uber-hard Devil May Cry game (3?). Never beat him. Didn't really try. Wasn't interested.
That would probably be the original DMC. I found that one much harder that DMC3.
Was it a giant lava/fire spider thing?

I wouldn't call this the hardest boss battle by any stretch, but its the only one that has made me break my controller in pure anger.

It was Xenosaga Episode 1 (or Episode 2, its been so long I honestly cant remember).

The last save-point before the last boss is a good 30+ minutes away with lots of battles. Well there the boss has two forms, you get no save or healing in between the forms and the second form quite randomly and cheaply gets to spam several overpowered attacks in a row without the chance for player input. Unless you are very high level it is a battle of chance, will he do his two most powerful attacks in a row or not?

After dying for the fourth time in a row I raised my arm, made a calculation that my anger and frustration was worth the money a new controller would cost me, and threw it across the room into the opposite wall and went out and bought a new controller. First and last time I've actually broken something valuable in anger.

Most of the hardest bosses I have ever fought come straight from the Kingdom Hearts series. The hardest boss I ever fought and beaten? Young Xehanort on Critical in Kingdom Hearts 3D. Seriously, not only does he hit like a truck and have a ton of health, but once you get him down to 0 HP, he says, "Time Stop"! and a big clock is summoned, you have to kill the clock within a certain time period before you have to face him all over again, albeit with less health but damn it is still cumbersome. It's made hard by the fact that he constantly summons fast moving and hard hitting clones who's sole purpose is to keep you away from the clock.

Hardest boss I have ever faced and have never beaten? Mysterious Figure from Birth By Sleep. Oh I can beat Vanitas's Lingering Spirit but screw Mysterious Figure, that guy has a set of combos that can kill you in one go, extremely erratic and unpredictable movements, and he takes forever to beat.

Up there is "Shadow man" from Mega man 3.... no 'top man' power of course... I'm talking about fighting him with your basic "P" (later known as mega buster... or was it mega buster by mm3... the real question is who really cares... /rant)

The Dark Genie at the end of...well...Dark Chronicle (or Dark Cloud 2 for you STUPID AMERICAN).

I love that game, but that boss is just a real pain. I never beat it.

This guy gets it. The bosses in Kingdom Hearts, especially the optional bosses, are incredibly difficult. More so then most any other game I've played. Games like Dark Souls ain't got shit on Kingdom Hearts when it comes to difficulty.

Double triple quadra penta super duper ultra mega screw you.
Oh god, Him.
Dear god he was a prick, insta-death mines, cloning, insta-death attack, screw you attacks, op magic attacks, healing. This guy was the absolute bane of my existence. I ended up giving up and using the ruby bolt strategy if it could be called a strategy.

The Necromancer in Castle Crashers is definitely up there as one of the most insanely tough bosses of all time.

I am going to jump backwards about 25 years.

Remember playing the game and about 2 minutes into the game, remember the only weapon you have is a handful of rocks. ROCKS. Then this fucker shows up *boom* game over.

Well, Hibachi from DoDonPachi Resurrection (ah, the benefits of being in Europe) is practically impossible.

If we're only allowing bosses from games people (might) have actually heard of, I'd say... Byakuren Hijiri, from Undefined Fantastic Object (the 12th Touhou game). Holy fucking shit. Nirvana's Cloudy Way in Purple is bullshit, Magic Milky Way is bullshit, Devil's Recitation is bullshit, Superhuman "Byakuren Hijiri" is bullshit, Legendary Flying Saucer is bullshit. Her 3rd nonspell is also bullshit. (It'd probably be better to name everything that isn't bullshit...)
I'm tempted to name Yukari Yakumo from Perfect Cherry Blossom, but despite Mesh of Light and Darkness, Double Black Death Butterfly and Boundary of Life and Death, she hasn't got much going for her when it comes to Lunatic Byakuren Hijiri.
