The Legend of Zelda... Well you run around this world fighting monsters as this guy named Link. Only his name isn't really Link, you get to name him whatever you want, so really I have no idea where 'Link' comes from.

Zelda? No, you never get to play as her, your objective is to rescue her, and you usually do it by the end of the game.

Well, no... She isn't in every game. She's not in Majora's Mask except for one cutscene... She isn't in Oracle of Ages or Seasons except if you try for the 'return link' game... And she has nothing to do with Link's Awakening...

Why are they all named 'Legend of Zelda?' I don't know...

(Actual conversation I had once.)

Mirror's Edge, it tells you nothing about the game, except for the cleanliness of the cities.

Mass Effect: Everyone's blue, except for you. Oh, and you probably don't look like this in the game. You might not even be a man.

Prey. I was trying to explain it to my friend the other day, and I said something like,

"Well, you're this Indian dude and you get abducted by aliens. Then your grandpa dies, then you die. You go into the spirit world and he teaches you how to turn into a ghost, and you go back to the spaceship and now you're looking for your girlfriend. Oh, and now I can do this *becomes Ghost Tommy* whenever I want. Oh yeah, and when you died, you brought back a bunch of evil spirits for no reason, and now they run around possessing little girls. And the ship is alive."

He didn't get it.

Portal. "You create these magic doors that leads to another magic door that you've created and with their aid you should solve puzzels."

Also; tiresome meme. I wonder how many non-gamers have been barraged with that.

I'd like to go for DJ Hero. 'Well, everything's totally whack, yo, and I'm now blinded by colour.'

Psychonauts...yeah...
That was my first thought, followed rapidly by Katamari Damacy. Actually, the box art is relatively easy to explain in relation to the game, it's the game that's such a head-tilter.

God Of war III possibly: "So you're like this Greek dude who killed the god of war then became the god of war but got killed by Zeus so he came back form the dead and now after he has resurrected the titans is going to kill all the gods.
Also he kills everyone.
Also he is Completely pale but still lives in Greece.
Also he doesn't talk with a Greek accent.

persona 3- you have to shoot yourself in the head to release your persona in battle while exploring a castle that only appear at a certain time which puts people into coffins until it disapears

So, you play as a 6 foot tall dog wearing a suit and a fedora, accompanied by his best friend and coworker, a hyperkinetic rabbity thing, in a satirical re-imagining of New York City and American pop culture as you gather various objects in a kleptomanical fashion which, when used on certain items and people in the environment, allow you to continue on with the story. The gameplay may not be as impressive as all those first person shooters out there, but the witty and sometimes downright gut-busting dialog and the creative story-telling more than make up for it.

But you will have short brown hair.

Mount and Blade: That's frodogorn. He has nothing to do with the game, but he has a horse, and a sword. Which explains what the game is about quite well.

Wizardry 8: It's the eighth game in the series. look, eight. Also, you can work for space rhinos in a fantasy land. And there is a rat mafia.
