What game did you just love and couldn't wait for a sequel then after playing the second one you just felt like someone punted your dog off a bridge then crawled back to the first one.

I have a few ones like Perfect Dark Zer, Conker live and reloaded.

The most disappointed I have ever had for a game sequel would be Supreme Commander 2. This is not even the same game as the first one it seriously should have just been given another name it does not deserve the name Supreme Commander. I would have been happy with them just making another xpac after Forged Alliance more units and another campaign. I can't remember how many times I have beaten that campaign though adding in some stuff like in SC2 where it gives you a time limit instead of just steamrolling each map would have been good.

FFX-2 and FFXIII-2 . I liked both the originals , but their respected sequels were terrible . I managed to ( somehow) finish X-2 but XIII-2 was too much bad for my poor soul to handle.

Mass Effect 2
I was so mad at bioware, ruined the trilogy for me. Took a cautious approach to me3 and I am glad I didn't buy it.

Ninja Gaiden 2
Cheap ass AI and some awful enemy types. Lag spikes. It sucks because everything else was pretty good. Except they changed the evade from a roll to a quick step, INEXCUSABLE.

Hard to say at the drop of a hat, so I'll just mention the sequel that recently disappointed me the most:

I liked the first game, thought the second was ok (too actiony) and when I heard that nr. 3 would be even more action-oriented I decided to skip it. But a few days ago I borrowed it from a friend because he told me it wasn't that bad. I ended up strongly disagreeing about an hour into the game.

So easy to turn into a cakewalk with the right weapon combo. So incredibly predictable, both in terms of story and gameplay.Such disappointing bossfights. Why am I shooting gun-toting dudes? What the fuck is up with the monstermoons that are basically Galactus, but lamer? Boring side missions that were all essentially the same. Boring characters that I didn't give crap about because I never really got to interact with them, since the game always found some contrived reason to separate us, if they didn't just outright disappear as soon as the cutscene was over. Beside Clarke, I don't remember any of their names. To me they were just the love-interest, the douchebag boyfriend, the soldier dude, the big bad professor zealot and the rest.

I did like some of the space-walking segments though. I also liked the little scavenger robots. It was kinda cute to deploy them and watch them scurry around.

Also, Conker Live & Reloaded is a remake, not a sequel.

Haven't bitched about it for a while but Wild Arms 4 though Wild Arms follows the final fantasy sequel method so I don't know if it counts Either way Wild Arms 3 had clever puzzles,a decent green message and great atmosphere. Wild Arms 4 threw that out the window and replaced it with generic wastelands, heavy handed moralizing and jumping puzzles. This is a slap to the face that is the greatness of WA3 and this game can go fuck it self

This.

I wanted a top down strategic RPG with deep combat. They gave us the awesome button.

I wanted a large range of conversation choices and a range of backgrounds. They gave one specific protagonist with the 3 vague choice conversation wheel. (That isn't a slight on Mass Effect, that was a justified for that series)

I wanted to make decisions that had an effect on what happened. They gave us a plot that railroaded every major plot point.

I wanted to explore the world of Thedas. They gave us one city and one dungeon.

I wanted interesting characters and mind messing dilemmas. They gave us people with only one defining trait each and not much to think about.

The sequel to "the spiritual successor to Baldurs Gate 2" took a great big whizz on its gravestone.

Exactly the same for me.

Mass Effect 1 was awesome, absolutely loved it. I actually enjoyed the combat and the story arch really drew me in. Then they pissed in my face in just about everyway with #2. Never even bought #3 and don't plan to. Which is a pitty, I was really interested in the Prothean facet.

Destroy All Humans! 2 wasn't so good... but then again the first game wasn't so good either... I guess I was waiting for the series to take off and it never did. And while we're talking Pandemic Studios, Mercenaries 2 sucked BALLS.

Diablo III.
The ARPG sub-genre was forever known as "Diablo Clones". No more. It takes a hell of a sequel to kill a franchise and piss off every fan. Diablo III managed it, though.

I enjoyed both of those games immensely, which is why I was thunderstruck and irritated to find that Path of the Furon was on X-Box only. Now, Big Willy is obviouly a disappointment... The voice-actors of the games wouldn't actually touch it.

OT: Still, my answer must go to the games that even the creators retcon out of existence. You never EVER mention a second Devil May Cry game, not unless you want to irritate Capcom for making that failed reboot. Speaking of Capcom, Megaman X games were taken in totally the wrong direction after THEIR CREATOR LEFT. X6 might have been passable as a homage, but after that? Fuck it. Anything after Resident Evil 4? Hah.

It took many years for Mortal Kombat to return to some of the proper glory that it had years ago back at MKII. What is it that seems to do it properly? MK9? Shit... Everything in between was either terrible or trying really hard and not quite hitting the sweet spots.

Blood Omen 2 and Soul Reaver 2 in the Legacy of Kain series were...interesting, but not as fun as the other games in the series. They were also more confusing than usual and Soul Reaver 2 was very frustrating, especially towards the latter areas of the game where you are fending off demons that follow you right into the netherworld. They didn't quite have Kain and Raziel right in either of those games, gameplay wise.

And, obviously, Final Fantasy 8.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter. I liked the reboot of Medal of Honor. It needed some work, but I enjoyed it enough that I was looking forward to the sequel. Oops. No other game comes close to that level of disappointment for me.

I think my biggest complaint with DAH!2 is that you can't kill people with PK anymore, which was my main source of amusement in the first game. They just removed all damage from PK. What is this, suddenly I can't kill people by slamming them against trees or dropping their cars on them? Also I thought they unnecessarily complicated stealth mode by not allowing you to recharge your disguise while donning it. I dunno, fun game and all, but they seemed to fuck up some of the stuff that worked perfectly fine in the first place. Kudos for making saucer missions more palatable (sucking health off vehicles is a huge leg up) but they're still just as boring.

The thing about the second game is that some of the values of the first game were changed around in manners that did not seem right, at first. For instance, the PK... Yes, it did seem not as good for a time, but I did indeed kill people with it. It simply took a little creativity. The Quantum Deconstructor and a couple of the other weapons (in or out of the ship) also seemed a bit nerfed to me, but on the plus side there were MORE weapons and it was easier to replenish ammo. I did not find the games boring, but then something in our tastes differ.

I'm pretty sure you can't kill people with PK. I mean, you can kill them by dropping them into water and stuff like that. But I've been playing local co-op with a buddy for the past few weeks and no matter how hard I smash people against buildings and such I can't kill them. You know how you can hold down L1 and simply bash them back and forth against stuff (i.e. the floor, walls, etc)... well, that has no effect whatsoever on their lifebars. They just get stunned for a while and then get up like nothing happened. I'm sorry for that. This was one of the few games that featured ragdoll physics on the PS2, and I always enjoyed fooling around with them. DAH!2 trimmed the fun for no real reason. On the plus side, the side-missions and collectibles were superior.

Well again, I don't entirely agree with you, but it doesn't matter that much. I still got the pleasure of riding a human into the ground from orbit.

I was going to mention Dead Space 3 because of what happened to it, but you had to go and remind me of Ninja Gaiden 2. I still remember how an AI will instantly grab the player and deal about 1/8 their health for turning a corner in a tunnel.

However Dissidia Duodecim sums up disappointing the most in recent years. The first one was decent with a ridiculous rabbit-hole element to it, but Duodecim made grinding into an intolerable chore. With Ninja Gaiden 2, I can at least feel passionately against it for all it's mistakes; but with Duodecim, it's like holding a balloon to your ear as it deflates and listening to the sound it makes.

Duke Nukem Forever.

It's not a Duke Nukem game. It doesn't feel anything like the other four games to bear the name. It's some other FPS with a Duke Nukem coat of paint.

The Xbone, obviously. XD

But, more seriously... Probably Red Faction: Armageddon. Guerrilla was a tone of fun, but pretty much all of the fun was zapped from the sequel entirely. I have played plenty of other bad (Max Payne 3) and disappointing (inFamous 2) sequels, but that one was the most crushing. :(
