I haven't bought any games so far this year...which is probably a first, come to think of it, even though we're only five months in; there just aren't many games that jump out as being worth whatever ludicrous price is being charged for them, while most of the shovelware on Steam's store page has put me on guard.

Last year, though? Probably something I got on the Steam store because it was discounted. I guess it might even be Tomb Raider, if only because I haven't played enough of it yet to judge its worth.

Probably Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. While it had its moments I enjoyed it way less than the original. Repetitive and less varied than the first game, settings and backgrounds were way more boring and the broken stealth mechanics didn't help either. This is a typical example of a developer that tried to overreach and create a 3D Symphony of the Night but failed completely. It had neither the diversity or exotic locales of LoS1 nor the metroidvania style play of SotN. To top it off it also had a ridiculous story.

Honestly... I was crushingly disappointed with Dark Souls II. It just wasn't a good follow up to the first game.

To be fair I think people view Dark Souls as a much better game than what it actually is. So much so that they pick apart the faults of 2 more easily.
Eh.... The faults I have with Dark Souls II weren't really present in the first game.

Most disappointing game I've played this year is Bioshock Infinite though (Free with PS Plus). It's just...utter shite.
This though.... This I agree with.

Resident Evil 5. I was looking for something new and the game was only 6 bucks. The first mission in and I realized that this game had horrible controls that had to be designed by someone who's never played a game before.

The games I've bought this year:

Dark Souls 2
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD

None of them have really dissapointed me. I guess if I had to pick one it'd be Ground Zeroes, due to the short length, but even then I wasn't too bothered by it.

I find it the perfect sequel. It Improves on the first in every way.

Sadly Payday 2, I bought it during the sale. Just way too repetitive, and the constant pushing to buy the DLCs got on my nerves. Lots of waiting around for drills to drill or rides to show up, lots of bag throwing, too much ammo scarcity and bulletsponge enemies for me.

Battlefield 4 as well, despite all the time I've put into it. The game's vehicle and weapon balance (especially the freaking AWS) issues and the decreased focus on Rush is an unfortunate thing that could be fixed by future DLCs or patches, but the game's infamous 'netcode' issue just absolutely kills whatever strategy and skill you can put into the game. Too much getting shot through corners and covers, too much waiting for DICE to make a patch that's probably hard coded into the game. It's a shame too, because I have little doubt that if the game's 'netcode' was fixed, it would easily be the snappiest, most competitive shooter for a while.

I haven't really bought many games this year yet, I don't think. Well, that I've gone and actually played enough to judge, and that I judged negatively. I feel I've been pretty satisfied so far.

I probably would've been disappointed by Lightning Returns had I bought it, but... well, the chances of me buying that were very, very low to begin with.

This year as in : in the past 365 days?

I say X Rebirth, without any form of hesitation. This abomination of a game is nigh unplayable, poorly optimized, with some questionable art direction and with half its promised features missing. Even if it gets patched up over the next bloody decade, I don't have the patience to wait for so long.

The worst (and only) pre-order i've ever made. I won't make the same mistake twice.

Same here, I felt it got over hyped when I actually started playing it and the core fan base refuses to acknowledge its not as great as its predecessor and not really a top game of the year candidate.

I haven't bought any games this year that disappointed me. But the two games that disappointed me out of all the games I've bought were, Prince of Persia(the first ps3 remake) and Mafia 2. Neither of which were horrible. But PoP just kind of bored me with the whole, magic lady saves me whenever I make a mistake thing, so I never finished it and Mafia 2 was fun but had a terrible ending and is the only game I've ever traded in because it had absolutely no replay value for me.

I haven't bought many games this year and all of the games that I've bought I've been very happy with. These are the games that I've bought/received this year:

Mount and Blade:Warband - amazing game that I've sunk about 100 hours into already
The Elder Scrolls Online- Just started this one a few days ago but it's been consuming my life with its awesome
Banished- Nice little indie game that got about 20-25 hours from me
Broken Age- kickstarted this one two years ago. Was not disappointed one bit by it

*HUMBLE BUNDLE INCLUDING*
Bit.Trip runner 2- makes my eyes hurt so stopped playing
Joe Danger 2: the movie- kind of fun but not really my thing
Papo & Yo- ok puzzle platformer but the story wasn't nearly as good or insightful or emotional as all the reviews said it was. Started to outstay its welcome by the end
To the Moon- Indie game that I really really enjoyed and would have gladly bought on its own in hindsight

So overall I haven't really been disappointed yet this year. It's been a good year for gaming. Still need to pick up Dark Souls 2 and the Stick of Truth at some point.

Really? Cause I think it's better in some ways then Dark Souls. As for the fan base not acknowledging it as being on par or better then the first one it seems as though they're pretty split on the issue. Also don't treat it as a fact that it's not as great as it's core predecessor cause there's a lot of people out there who would say it's even better the the last.

Most disappointing game I ever bought was Mass Effect 1. I was so pumped for that game, and when I finally got it, I kind of hated it. The game was just so painfully mediocre, annoying, and repetitive. It was basically then I learned not to get super-hyped for games anymore, because that only leads to sadness.

Are the controls that different from RE4, which are perfectly fine controls?
